Job Summary:
The Controller is a hands-on, transactional financial leader responsible for overseeing the daily accounting operations, financial management, and compliance for Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Texas (RMHC-CTX). This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial systems while supporting strategic decision-making aligned with RMHC-CTX's mission.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and thrives in both managing day-to-day accounting tasks and contributing to big-picture financial strategies. This position combines operational responsibilities with leadership oversight to maintain financial integrity and optimize resource allocation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Daily Accounting Operations:
- Perform end-to-end accounting processes, including month-end accruals, journal entries, general ledger reconciliation, and account balancing.
- Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and semi-monthly payroll.
- Prepare and post monthly bank reconciliations, including resolving outstanding items.
- Manage cash flow for multiple bank accounts and credit cards.
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and publish accurate monthly financial statement packages, including budget variance analyses and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Provide financial insights to guide strategic decisions.
- Support annual budgeting processes and provide financial analyses as needed.
Compliance & Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, fund accounting principles, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard financial transactions and organizational assets.
- Oversee grant expenditures to ensure compliance with donor and grantor requirements.
Audit & Tax Management:
- Coordinate annual audits and serve as a liaison with external auditors.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of tax returns, including compiling necessary documentation for IRS Form 990.
Systems Management:
- Maintain and optimize financial systems, including QuickBooks Online and other relevant platforms.
- Document and update accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and compliance.
Other Responsibilities:
- Research and resolve account discrepancies promptly.
- Handle 1099 processing and year-end procedures.
- Collaborate on construction project accounting and grant reporting, as applicable.
- Pay vendors, taxes, and insurance by organizational policies.
Skills & Competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting principles.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online (certification preferred) and Microsoft Excel (including advanced functions like VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and macros).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Commitment to the mission and values of RMHC-CTX.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Frequent repetitive motion, including wrist, hand, and finger movements.
- Occasional lifting of objects up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to bend, sit, squat, and grasp items as needed.
- Visual acuity for close and distance vision, as well as distinguishing colors.

Qualifications: Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Non-profit accounting experience is highly desirable.
