SUMMARY 

The Vice-President of Mission Priorities reports directly to the President. The role of the VP is to provide leadership and general oversight of the mission priorities of the Evangelical Covenant Church. This leader resources and supports executive ministers to ensure ministry efforts align with denominational objectives and remain responsive to Covenant constituency. 

In collaboration with the President, the Vice-President of Mission Priorities partners closely with the Vice President of Mission Services and the Vice President of Finance to jointly formulate ministry priorities and strategies to execute ECC initiatives. This role provides vision, clarity, and leadership strategies with the expressed intention of cultivating, developing, and advancing ECC leaders and ministry initiatives to meet present and future needs. 

This position will collaborate with ECC leadership groups with the president and the VP of Mission Services and the VP of Finance regarding a unified approach to ministry efforts across the ECC (mission areas, ministry affiliates and regional conferences). This includes participating on the Council of Superintendents and the Mosaic Commission. 

This role has financial and budgetary responsibility and is accountable for meeting, leading, and managing accountability across areas of responsibilities. This role takes a big picture approach to accountability and seeks to make decisions based on the good of the whole organization.  

This role is accountable for outcomes of the mission priorities, including the implementation of decisions and policies of the Annual Meeting, the Executive Board of the ECC, and the President.

  

Requirements

  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Represent the president to coordinate and bring collaboration across the mission priorities, ensuring comprehensive, aligned, and integrated strategies designed to meet the needs of the Covenant denomination.

· Effectively leads and develops executive ministers to work as a team and for the greater good of ministry collectively – not just in particular ministry areas.

· Demonstrates a commitment to meeting the needs of the Covenant denomination, prudently and thoughtfully within the determined financial, people and resource parameters.

· Shepherd executive ministers’ professional and ministry development. 

· Foster collaboration amongst ECC leaders, leadership teams, ministry areas, and ECC constituency, at large. 

· Serve in ECC leadership groups, committees and efforts to promote the furthering of ministry and/or those outlined the ECC Bylaws, and/or as requested by the President. 

· Cultivates a positive, harmonious, fun, and effective working environment in which mission can flourish. 

· Other duties as assigned by the President. 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Master’s degree in Theology, Business Administration, Organizational/Ministry Development, or related field. At least ten (10) years of related ministry experience, including leadership, organizational development, or Ministry development and delivery. Holds permanent credentials in the Covenant Church.

· Personal and demonstrated Christian faith and Covenant ethos, pastoral gifting. 

· High emotional intelligence, non-anxious public presence, and strong relational skills. 

· Willingness to fully support the mission and ministry of the Evangelical Covenant Church at the denominational, regional conference and local congregational levels, as well as affiliated entities and ministries. 

· Mobilizer of multi-layered and decentralized ministry and at ease with collaborating within multi-layered organizational environments. 

· Intrinsically motivated and comfortable in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment. 

· Strong public speaking and written communication skills. 

· Experienced in relating with a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, and socio-economic settings.

· Effective team leader and player. Experienced in developing cohesive teams.

· Excellent people and coaching skills, giving feedback or direction as needed.

· Strong ability to lead to preferred outcomes with and through the gifts/talents of people.

· Exercises discernment and good judgment.  


ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS 

Able to work well in a professional office setting, as well as remotely using secure communications. Moderate to frequent travel. Must be versatile and able to work for prolonged segments sitting or standing. Must engage frequently with office tools and equipment, such as: computer, copier, phone, technology-based equipment, printers, etc. Must be able to occasionally lift or move items, less than 40 lbs.
