Operations Supervisor (Arena) - Full Time

Description

Under the supervision of the Arena Operations & Ice Manager, act as a setup/changeover supervisor overseeing the full-time and part-time operations staff and subcontract labor that prepare for events at the facility. Duties include skilled and semi-skilled tasks and are often heavy in nature, requiring a degree of physical exertion.

  • Oversee and participate in all aspects of the arena conversion process for events. Duties may include setting up and tearing down flooring, hockey glass and dasher walls, lacrosse/ football turf, volleyball court, basketball court, pads, goals and nets, operable walls, barricades, staging, portable chairs, tables, other furnishings, and equipment.
  • Oversee personnel and perform various duties to ensure the facility's day-to-day operations are met. 
  • Train new hires, part-time employees, or subcontracted services in the proper use of equipment, policies of the facility, and life/emergency procedures.
  • Assist the Arena Operations & Ice Manager in preparing work schedules, setting staffing requirements, preparing for all event conversions, and reviewing the quantity and quality of work performed by staff during conversion shifts.
  • Document all occurrences during conversions, including employee accidents or injuries, facility or equipment damage or misuse, and disciplinary problems with full or part-time staff members. 
  • Inspect the completion of all assigned tasks to guarantee all specifications are met.
  • Report any needed repairs and maintenance tasks such as painting, patching, re-lamping, replacing ceiling tiles, and damage to equipment or the facility.
  • Participate in the execution of life safety and emergency programs as needed to ensure the safe execution of events at the facility and promote a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Report irregularities, discrepancies, safety or damage concerns, or loss of property promptly to the supervisor.
  • Keep the operations storage and marshaling areas on the event level clean, well-organized, and safe at all times.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours, including nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Skills and Abilities

Position requires the ability to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of portable concert and event production equipment. Working knowledge or experience with show rigging equipment is beneficial.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility. 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of practices and procedures related to event set-up and conversions; typical methods and techniques for organizing and maintaining the facility; and proper use and care of all operations equipment, hand, and power tools.
  • Engage in frequent decision-making that is generally governed by procedure and guided by policy.
  • Possess any licenses, certificates, or training required by local, state, or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility, such as forklifts.
  • Read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and other related materials.
  • Adhere to and enforce all laws, codes, ordinances, risk management, safety precautions, and emergency procedures.
  • Meet the job's physical demands, which include getting in and around the facility (requires personal mobility) and working from various heights. Must sometimes perform strenuous physical duties, including lifting, carrying, moving, and climbing. 
  • Be able to withstand moderate to loud noises.
  • Operate equipment such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, boom lifts, Zamboni machines, scrubbing machines, or other light power-driven equipment.
  • Operate a personal computer using Windows and Microsoft Office software.
  • Operate portable radio and standard office equipment including copier.
  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with others in both oral and written form.
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines. 
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
  • Work as a team member as well as independently, exercising judgment and initiative.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, and others encountered in the course of employment.
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.
  • Be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or G.E.D. and three years of full-time experience at a facility or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required.
