Entry-level Personal Injury Associate Attorney

Description

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced attorneys, gain hands-on experience in personal injury cases, and will be responsible for managing a caseload of personal injury matters. 


The Associate works under the general direction of the COO and has a limited degree of discretion with respect to controlling cases assigned to him/her. The Associate works in conjunction with the Office Manager to handle administrative duties delegated by the Owner.  

Requirements

 The Associate shall perform legal services including:  

  • Conduct consultations with prospective clients and serve as the principal contact between the Firm and its clients  
  • Manage a caseload of personal injury cases, working under the supervision of senior attorneys, from case initiation through resolution. 
  • Compile all possible information, evidence, and documentation, including medical records and bills, loss of earnings documentation and change in lifestyle information,  
  • Draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents for filing in county and/or state courts 
  • Negotiate and settle all assigned cases 
  • Communicate regularly with clients to provide updates on case status, answer questions, and address concerns 
  • Representing clients in mediation, in deposition, and in court for motions, and other types of hearings 

The Associate shall oversee the work of the Case Manager (CM). The Associate does not supervise the employment relationship with the CM, but the Associate has the authority to assign case-related tasks appropriate for the position, such as:  

  • Client follow-up 
  • Responding to client requests 
  • Communicating with the client to obtain information/documents/records needed 
  • Case tracking 
  • Relay demands to insurance carriers 

Education & Experience  

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school. 
  • 0-3 years of experience, with some exposure to personal injury law preferred. 
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with experience drafting legal documents. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients and colleagues. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • A proactive approach to professional development and a willingness to learn from senior attorneys. 
  • Bilingual Spanish/English skills are a plus.
