Description

The Medical Transcription Quality Assurance (QA) Specialist is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and quality of transcribed medical documents. This role involves reviewing and editing transcriptions, maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations, and providing feedback to transcriptionists to support continuous improvement. 


Hours: 

· Four (4) 9 hour shifts + One (1) 4 hour shift OR

· Four (4) 10 hour shifts

· Following onsite training, this role is fully REMOTE


Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily review of the transcribed report(s) for completeness, correctness.
  • Correct or fill in any blanks as necessary.
  • Push to Scanning for indexing to patient’s EMR.
  • Periodic review of provider’s transcribed reports against actual dictation, applying industry-specific standards provided by current resources and references. 
  • Through a standard random selection process, select randomly transcribed or edited reports for review. 
  • Provide timely and consistent feedback to the lead and/or manager in order to eliminate repetition of errors, build skills, and mentor the medical transcriptionist/editor. 
  • Recognize, interpret, and evaluate inconsistencies, discrepancies, and inaccuracies in the medical dictation, and appropriately correct, clarify and/or report them as required. 
  • Direct efforts toward quality documentation, including providing input regarding procedures, training, and resources for team members. 
  • Establish policies and procedures that contribute to the efficiency of the transcription department.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Medical terminology required
  • Medical Transcription Certification preferred but not required
  • Medical transcription education or qualifying degree/experience preferred.
  • One year previous experience as a transcriptionist in the medical field required
  • Orthopedic experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, disease process, signs and systems, medications, and laboratory values. 
  • In-depth knowledge of medical transcription guidelines (The AAMT Book of Style for Medical Transcription) and practices. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including grammar, punctuation, and style, in order to provide consistent quality feedback to the lead and manager as requested. 
  • Excellent acoustical skills. 
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the medico legal implications and risk management responsibilities of the healthcare record, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. 
  • Ability to understand diverse accents, dialects, and varying dictation styles. 
  • Proficient in referencing, researching, reporting, tracking, and monitoring. 
  • Ability to multi-task with multiple priorities and time frames. Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision. 
  • Ability to operate computer, multiple software applications, transcription equipment, and other equipment necessary, including the ability to accept voice/text files in multiple formats and word processing software.
  • Organizational skills for file management. 
  • Mathematical skills, including calculations and statistics.
