Description:

The Malagasy Lutheran Church is the ninth largest Lutheran church in the world, with four million members in twenty-five synods. At the heart of the Malagasy Lutheran Church is a passion for evangelism and service to others.

The Malagasy Lutheran Church Teacher Training Center was opened in 1969. The Center has 16 staff members and a missionary couple from France. There are 117 trainees at the center. The trainees are split into two levels – those who are training to teach primary school and those training to teach secondary school. Some of the teachers in training choose to study English. Both levels must finish two years of studies and will then receive their diploma after a theoretical and practical exam, research paper, and presentation.

The Teacher Training Center also offers students training about inclusive education, as it is an aim of the Malagasy Lutheran Church.

Fandriana is situated 52 km from Ambositra, which is the largest town in the region, and 136 km southeast from Antsirabe, which is one of the largest cities in Madagascar. 

 

Assignment Includes: 

Teaching English to students in the teacher training school. Teaching students English capacity and how to teach English at the primary school and Middle School level.

Requirements

Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor or Masters in English Education or Education Pedagogy
  • French or Malagasy language, helpful.
  • Able to teach and reinforce English skills for trainees and employees. 
  • Openness for conversation with young people during the training period. 
  • Christian faith and a commitment to the mission of the church
  • Openness to various expressions of Christian faith and respect for people of other faiths
  • Respect for beliefs, values and customs of church and culture
  • Well-developed inter-personal skills demonstrating understanding and compassion
  • Demonstrate ability to carry out the responsibilities and the ability to adapt to different standards and practices
  • Ability to work within the framework of a local administration

Terms and Conditions: Global Mission Volunteer

  • One of year service. 
  • The Center has a guest house for housing. Housing is furnished and costs $100 USD/month, utilities (electricity, water, and network) are provided. 
  • Public transportation and car rental is at the cost of the volunteer. 


Physical Effort

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. This position requires sitting for long periods of time. Employee will occasionally need to lift boxes or materials up to 15 pounds.
