Description
The Metrology Engineer will ensure the accuracy and precision of measurements used in product development, manufacturing, and quality control, contributing to the overall quality assurance process.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze measurement systems, including statistical process control, (SPC), uncertainty analysis, and error analysis to ensure reliability and accuracy of measurements.
- Participate in the creation of manufacturing process and equipment qualification validation plans, validation protocols and reports, and their implementation.
- Perform routine calibration, validation, and troubleshooting of precision measurement instruments and equipment, including but not limited to CMMs (Coordinate Measuring Machines), laser scanners, gauges, and various other tools.
- Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians on metrology practices, calibration techniques, and measurement equipment.
- Maintain accurate calibration records and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Document measurement results, deviations, and corrective actions in detailed reports.
- Provide technical support to the manufacturing and production teams in selecting the appropriate measuring techniques and equipment for specific applications.
- Assist in root-cause analysis for measurement related issues.
- Participate in the creation of supplier process and equipment qualification validation plans, validation protocols and reports, and their implementation.
- Work closely with R & D, quality, and production teams to ensure measurement systems meet design specifications and quality standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and recommending solutions to increase measurement precision and efficiency.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications in metrology are a plus (e.g., ISO 17025, Six Sigma).
- Minimum for 5 years of experience in metrology, quality control, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Experience with automation in metrology systems preferred.
- Experience with virtual metrology and the integration of measurement data into manufacturing systems preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in the use of advanced metrology tools and equipment (CMM, optical measuring systems, profilometers etc.)
- Strong understanding of measurement uncertainty, error analysis, and statistical techniques.
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) ASME Y-14.5.
- Proficient in metrology-related software (e.g., Calypso, PolyWorks, Geomagic, Minitab, etc.), with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify measurement issues and implement corrective actions.
- High attention to detail and precision, ensuring that all measurements and data are accurate and reliable.
- Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes (e.g., additive manufacturing, CNC machining, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and methodologies in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment:
- Some liftin up to 30 pounds may be required.
- Regular use of a computer is required.
- May sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Must be able to speak and hear clearly, both in person and virtually.
- Ability to read and interpret information and documents.
- Primarily engineering, laboratories, and shop environments.
- Preform detailed work on concurrent projects.
- May require access to areas where noise and temperature levels are elevated.
