THE POSITION
Working closely with the Digital Marketing Manager, the Digital Marketing Associate leads the creation of dynamic, engaging content across the Guthrie’s social media platforms and assists with external email campaigns. This role is instrumental in crafting original content that elevates the Guthrie’s brand, drives audience engagement and aligns with the organization’s voice and values. Additionally, the Digital Marketing Associate analyzes engagement data, contributes insights to enhance growth and ensures consistent communication of the Guthrie’s brand identity. The typical schedule is Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. but flexibility to accommodate occasional evening and weekend work for special events and productions is also required. This position is eligible for remote work on Mondays and Fridays.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Social Media Content Creation
- Lead the development of dynamic, engaging content across multiple social media platforms — including but not limited to TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube and LinkedIn — to amplify the Guthrie’s brand, foster audience engagement and drive conversions.
- Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Manager to develop and execute a content-forward social media strategy that leverages the Guthrie’s unique voice and values. Take ownership of brainstorming, scripting, storyboarding and producing content tailored for specific platforms, with a special emphasis on short-form video content (e.g., TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts).
- Maintain and organize the social media content calendar on Later and Airtable, collaborating in regular content brainstorms, securing final approvals and ensuring all content aligns with the Guthrie’s brand voice and audiences.
- Craft compelling, platform-specific social media copy and partner with the Guthrie’s Writer and Editor on copywriting assignments. Support visual storytelling by coordinating with various departments to create and/or source branded assets that represent Guthrie programming.
- Actively monitor and engage with audiences on social media platforms throughout the workday and during assigned evenings and weekends. Ensure timely, consistent responses to questions, comments and feedback in alignment with the Guthrie’s style and institutional values, using pre-approved messaging as needed.
- Stay attuned to social media best practices, trends and current events, regularly contributing ideas on content creation opportunities and recommending strategy adjustments to enhance reach and engagement.
- Support the Digital Marketing Manager by assisting in monitoring paid social media campaigns while tracking the performance of organic campaigns to identify engagement trends and areas for content improvement.
2. Email and website
- Manage and execute email campaigns to promote ticket sales and raise awareness of Guthrie productions, programs and initiatives.
- Build, proofread and deploy approximately 20–30 emails per month across departments, following the Guthrie Style Guide to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Schedule or manually send emails using segmented lists, supporting A/B testing and troubleshooting technical issues (dynamic fields, HTML) with the Digital Marketing Manager as needed.
- Monitor email best practices, recommend adjustments to improve performance and analyze campaign results to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Maintain and update website content as needed according to the editorial calendar and guidelines set by the Digital Marketing Manager.
3. Administration
- Participate in content ideation meetings for marketing campaigns; provide social media and email recommendations.
- Support the execution of marketing plans and collaborate on marketing strategies to increase ticket sales.
- Attend department meetings and communicate relevant updates to the team.
- Capture behind-the-scenes photos of staff/artists at work and special events as assigned.

- Experience managing a brand’s social media platforms and executing paid and unpaid campaigns. Formal, informal and cross-disciplinary experiences will be considered.
- Passion for digital marketing and using social media to engage and build audiences.
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with an emphasis on crafting engaging and effective marketing language.
- Experience managing email campaigns and working in email softwares; Wordfly experience a plus.
- Experience in website CMS management preferred.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently, shows initiative and possesses technical proficiency to troubleshoot and solve digital issues.
- Basic Google Analytics knowledge a plus.
- Project management experience; can manage several tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
- Basic photography and videography skills with mobile devices or DSLR cameras; Photoshop and Premiere Pro experience a plus.
- Proficiency with TikTok and Instagram in-app video editing a plus.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours/days reflective of the dynamic schedule of a theater to accommodate occasional evening and weekend work for special events and productions.
