Description

AMHC's Residential Treatment Facility in Presque Isle is looking for a Substance Use Disorder Residential Counselor.   

The Residential Counselor plays a vital role in supporting individuals in recovery from substance use disorders within a structured residential treatment environment. This position provides direct care, facilitates therapeutic activities, and fosters a safe, supportive atmosphere that encourages personal growth and recovery. The Residential Counselor works closely with clients to help them navigate their treatment journey and develop essential life skills. 


Responsibilities & Expectations:

  

1. Provide emotional support and guidance to clients, fostering a positive and nurturing environment to assist clients in achieving their personal recovery goals. 


2. Monitor client activities and interactions to ensure safety and compliance with the facility's rules and policies by conducting regular check-ins and assessments of the client's well-being.


3. Support therapeutic and recreational activities, including group discussions, life skills training, and mindfulness practices, while encouraging engagement in treatment activities to promote a sense of community among clients.


4. Provide immediate support and intervention during crises, ensuring the client's safety and well-being while collaborating with crisis services when necessary.

 

5. Collaborate with licensed counselors, therapists, and medical staff to ensure holistic care and treatment continuity.


6. Provide case management for assigned clients while they are in treatment at other AMHC services, e.g., Outpatient services, Intensive Outpatient, Medication-Assisted Treatment, Peer Recovery Services, and Transportation Services.


7. Provide information and resources to clients about substance use, recovery, and available support services.


8. Advocate for the client’s needs within the facility and assist them in navigating available resources within the community as needed. 


9. Educate clients and their families about the nature of addiction, recovery processes, and coping mechanisms. Providing resources and referrals to community support services as needed.

  • This is an hourly, 40-hour per week position

Requirements

 

  • A high school diploma or equivalent plus 1 to 2 years of relevant experience is required.  A copy of a high school diploma is required at the time of hire.


  • This position requires immediate registration as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor Aide with the State of Maine within 30 days from the date of hire.  Additionally, a license as an ADCA must be maintained throughout employment.


  • Holders of this position must complete a physical at the time of hire and at least once every three years.



Salary Description
36,754 - 44,105 depending on experience
