Description

A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for supporting medical staff in administering care to residents including helping residents bathe and maintain proper hygiene, feeding and meal time, and managing medications and assessing vital signs.


This position complies with department and organization-wide policies, long-term care facility requirements, safety, and infection control, and all Federal and State of Nebraska regulations related to the performance of Heritage of Webster County operations and requirements of the compliance program.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists residents with personal care activities.
  • Provides companionship and basic emotional/psychological support.
  • Monitors residents (vital signs, temperature, respiration, etc.) and reports on their conditions.
  • Assists residents with mobility and physical therapies/exercises.
  • Collects routine specimens.
  • Documents treatment activity and summarizes progress for each. Reports and charts significant changes in resident condition, evidence of pain or motivational level.
  • Notifies DON, nurse or appropriate therapy discipline of problems, referrals and reassessment needs.
  • Obtains information from physicians, caregivers and nurses regarding resident condition, treatment plans, and suggested activities.
  • Ensures residents receive appropriate dietary needs by reviewing restrictions, food allergies, and preferences.
  • Follows appropriate safety, hygiene and infection control measures.
  • Inventories and maintains adequate supplies to meet needs of residents.
  • Maintains consistent resident care schedule and demonstrates efficient use of time.
  • Coordinates restorative treatments with other facility departments.
  • Communicates effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques and appropriate equipment to minimize fall risk to resident and injury to self.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous nurse aide or long term care experience preferred


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

  • Completion of state certification course for nursing assistants (CNA)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
