Summary: As a professional counselor, this position implements, maintains and coordinates the case management activities of a patient load. This position requires proficient DBT skills and the ability to teach a population that is often resistant to new information. It also delivers treatment services that include individual, and group counseling related to all patients including the more difficult substance dependent patients. This position teaches and coaches DBT skills to modify patient behaviors. Treatment planning and service delivery skillfully addresses PTSD and historic trauma, which includes skillfully addressing underlying dynamics. Patient files must consistently meet RCW, WAC, CARF, NWITC policies. Timelines of services must consistently meet NWITC policies. Coordination of services includes appropriately inclusion of mental health services. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of issues of harassment and violence in the workplace and domestic violence and institutional racism and how thus impacts Indian people. This position may be assigned training of new personnel. Weekend and evening shifts may be required; on-call responsibilities required.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following.

  • Provides case management for an assigned caseload of patients per NWITC policies and procedures, DOH and RCW's, WAC's, CARF standards and organization guidelines. Regularly reviews open records to assure that timelines are met for documentation.
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation in patient records and other patient care documents as per NWITC policies and procedures.
  • Provides intakes, pre-admission and admission assessments.
  • Assesses the needs of NWJTC patients, makes safety plans when appropriate.
  • Develops treatment plans that target resolution of trauma, expression of grief and loss, development of positive identity and strong DBT skills.
  • Provides meaningful and appropriate crisis interventions for patients and alumni. Arranges and participates in family, significant other conferences as appropriate.
  • Consistently and skillfully implements interventions to effectively address patient trauma that leads to relapse.
  • Consistently and skillfully facilitates individual and group therapy to achieve meaningful results in relationship to trauma, while effectively managing inappropriate and diverse behaviors.
  • Provides clearly articulated, organized and engaging lectures and activities to patients.
  • Consistently demonstrates the use of DBT skills in communication with patients, employees and others.
  • Appropriately and creatively includes DBT skills into treatment planning and activities.
  • Teaches DBT skills in relationship to Native plants to a population that is often resistant to new information.
  • Assists in monitoring patient milieu, to meet patient needs to include ale1ting staff in the event of emergencies, inappropriate behavior, and threats to safety and health.
  • Interacts with all patients of the milieu as needed.
  • Cooperates with staffing patterns and scheduling needs for meeting patient needs; participates in temporary assignments.
  • Attends weekly staff meetings and in-service as required or that occur on the assigned shift.
  • Interacts positively with peers to build a cooperative team and enhance morale. Communicate respectfully and professionally, modeling effective, responsible style for patients
  • Initiates and implements phone calls, correspondence, progress reports with and for patients, referral sources, probation officers, after care providers, attorneys and others as appropriate.
  • Interacts cooperatively and constructively and with timeliness with referring agencies and after care agencies and others with patient involvement.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient/client information and internal NWTTC operations.
  • Follows NWITC policies and procedures including those consistent with professional boundaries in relationship to patients, alumni and other employees.
  • Monitors and maintains current data for outcomes as assigned. Provides data and repo1ts required for successful billing, collects necessary information to maximize billing opportunities.
  • Assists in the development of model typical treatment plans addressing patterns of patient needs.
  • Assists in the development of lecture material, handout material and other resources to improve treatment outcomes, meet patient needs and that are responsive to changing patterns of patient characteristics.
  • Participates in quality assurance activities using appropriate forms, collects data, makes reports and corrects problems
  • Assists with the preparation for all external agency requirements including DOH, IHS and CARP.
  • Transports patients. Picks up supplies and resources as needed.
  • Maintains orderly office, coffee and supply area.
  • Other duties as assigned


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities but may be asked to participate in the training of new personnel.


QUALIFICATIONS: Must be certified as a Substance Abuse Disorder Professional by the State of Washington. Must not be under current investigation by the Depa1tment of Health or found in noncompliance with DOH ethical standards unless successfully pa1ticipating in a correction program with DOH with the agreement of the Squaxin Island Tribe. Experience working in an area of human services with Native American patients preferred.


LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write, speeches and articles for publication that conform to a prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or

boards of directors. Able to manage demanding groups and individuals skillfully and appropriately demonstrating DBT skills. Must be able to speak before groups in an engaging manner that maintains attention and work with a team to implement trainings.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a current, valid Washington State Driver's License. The successful applicant must pass a criminal history background check. Must be insured by the Tribe's insurance carrier. Must complete TB test and CPR training.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Master's Degree OR Bachelor's Degree in health, human service area or related field plus two years relevant experience OR an Associate's Degree in health, human service area or related field and four years' relevant experience.
