CNC Lathe/Mill Operator II

JOB PURPOSE: 

Operates machines on a repetitive basis to produce inventory parts as required to meet production schedules. Sets-up and operates designated equipment on production runs.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: 

  1. Efficient in the planning and operation of three or more CNC lathe/mill machines to produce new and existing parts by reading blueprints and work orders while utilizing basic knowledge of CNC programming. 
  2. Operates machines to maximum performance by understanding capabilities, tooling, material characteristics, and basic machining principles.
  3. Utilizes proper tool selection by studying dimensions and tolerances of parts, demonstrating knowledge of tooling, speeds and feed rates, and material characteristics.
  4. Operates production equipment by loading and unloading stock, inspecting parts and performing all secondary operations including but not limited to drilling, deburring, etc.
  5. Maintains parts specifications by inspecting parts per the work order, observing operations, detecting malfunctions, adjusting controls, and replacing worn tools.  
  6. Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements in a timely manner following manufacturer’s instructions, and notifying supervisor when repairs are needed. 
  7. Maintains performance standards by maintaining established production rates on all parts produced.
  8. Contributes to department efforts by accomplishing tasks as requested with effective documentation and communication of irregularities and continuing needs. 
  9. Works in a safe manner protecting themselves and others from known hazards by maintaining a clean work environment, following all established Safety and housekeeping policies and procedures including use of personal protective equipment and designated material handling equipment. 
  10. Provides accurate accounting of materials used and parts produced by completing all paperwork, tagging completed parts, and the completion of each work order.  


POSITION REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Minimum one year experience operating CNC lathe/mill machine shop equipment.
  2. Demonstrated ability to use correct inspection equipment for the given feature (i.e. calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
  3. Demonstrated ability to perform basic math skills (metric conversions, basic geometry, arithmetic, etc.)
  4. Demonstrated ability to accurately read blueprints. 
  5. Demonstrated self-initiative. 
  6. Demonstrated basic computer skills (ERP data entry, access & pull print files, etc.) 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

  1. Walking, climbing, lifting, twisting, reaching, carrying, bending, pushing, pulling, grasping, fingering, seeing, feeling, etc.
  2. Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance. 
  3. Occasionally lift and/or move 100 pounds or greater with assistance (crane, forklift, etc.)
  4. Ability to safely stand for 95% of the working shift. 
  5. Atmospheric exposures (fumes, dust, airborne gasses/oil/coolant)
  6. Ability to read, write and converse (talk and hear) in the English language. 
  7. Possible occasional travel to attend training classes as required
  8. Possible overnight travel


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
