Description
Position Summary: Under the direction of the Aquatics Director and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of Southwest Florida, the Aquatics Coordinator will provide leadership, and support operations to the Aquatics Department which includes lifeguards, swim lesson instructors, and team swim. He/She will also aid in ensuring the safety of all participants in or around the YMCA pool.
Essential Functions:
- Assist with developing and implementing consistent and frequent in-service trainings for lifeguard staff.
- Assist with recruiting, training, developing, scheduling, and directing Aquatics staff as needed.
- Assist with reviews and evaluation of staff performance. Help develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Assist with establishing new program activities and expanding program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
- Assist with reviewing timesheets and managing payroll in a timely manner for the aquatics department.
- Assist in monitoring aquatic operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
- Serve as the point person for risk management for the Aquatics Department at your home branch.
- Assist with compilation of program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
- Coordinates use of programming for activities and events.
- Assist with development and distribution of program calendar and newsletter.
- Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
- Attends all Aquatics Cabinet meetings.
- Maintain constant supervision of the pool during assigned shift.
- Knowledge of water testing procedures and ability to test water as instructed.
- Direct all pool maintenance concerns immediately.
- Make sure all equipment is put away correctly following your shift.
- Will be trained in and adhere to all policies and procedures including but not limited to privacy, confidentiality and security policies and procedures within the department.
- All other duties as assigned.

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to climb in and out of all guard chairs, stand and sit for long periods of time and get in and out of the pool as needed. This person is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, equipment or controls, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- Extended exposure to sunlight and outdoor elements as well as warm and humid outdoor environments is expected. Position works independently and without supervision for long periods of time. Exposure to chlorine and other pool chemicals.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Relevant experience: 2 years required.
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience including team management, preferred.
- Current YMCA, Redcross, StarGuard, or other nationally recognized lifeguarding certification
- Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements as well as meet the Association’s policies on background screening.
- Adhere to drug/alcohol/smoke free workplace policy.
Certification and Training Requirements:
- YUSA Lifeguard Certification (required within 30 days to complete Crossover course)
- YUSA Aquatics Trainer/Instructor: Lifeguard and Swim Lesson (required within 120 days of employment)
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) preferred
- Completion of the YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens and Child Sexual Abuse Prevention training
- Additional Training Classes as Recommended by Supervisor
Salary Description
18.00 to 19.00 per hour
