The Manager of Infrastructure will lead the planning, implementation, and maintenance of our organization's IT infrastructure. This role is pivotal in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of systems critical to our operations. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with strategic leadership to align infrastructure initiatives with business objectives. As a key leader, you will oversee a team of engineers, manage vendor relationships, and drive innovation to support a high-performing, future-ready environment. This role will also serve as an expert advisor and liaison to the business OT teams. This leader should have some knowledge of those systems and be able to engage across the organization about these systems. This position will report to the Sr. Director of Information Technology & Cybersecurity.
Responsibilities

- Infrastructure Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement a strategic vision for the company’s infrastructure, ensuring it supports current and future business needs. Assess emerging technologies and recommend solutions to improve performance, scalability, and security.
- OT Knowledge and Support: Support the IT/OT integration of our assets. Work with other teams across the organization to design, test, secure and enable the proper use of OT data and Systems.
- System Selection, Design, and Implementation: Lead the architecture and deployment of infrastructure systems, including servers, storage, networks, and cloud solutions. Oversee upgrades, migrations, and system integrations.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of infrastructure engineers, fostering skill development and collaboration. Allocate resources effectively to support operational and project-based initiatives.
- Operations and Maintenance: Ensure high availability and performance of infrastructure systems through proactive monitoring and maintenance. Develop and enforce operational best practices, including documentation, change management, and incident response.
- Security and Compliance: Implement security measures to protect systems and data against unauthorized access, threats, and vulnerabilities. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards.
- Budgeting and Vendor Management: Manage the infrastructure budget, including hardware, software, and service agreements. Evaluate and negotiate contracts with vendors, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with business requirements.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in Enterprise Infrastructure in order to recommend innovative solutions. Identify and implement opportunities to improve reliability, security and system performance.
- Future Team Leadership: As the role evolves, the successful candidate will be responsible for building and leading a team of direct reports.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant experience in IT infrastructure management
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- Expertise in managing hybrid cloud environments, virtualization, and enterprise networks
- Proficiency in technologies such as Windows/Linux servers, VMware, Azure/AWS, and network protocols
- Knowledge of ITIL or similar frameworks is a plus
- Deep understanding of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Expertise in managing cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including hybrid and multi-cloud environments
- Strong knowledge of network infrastructure, including firewalls, switches, routers, VPNs, and SD-WAN
- Experience with storage solutions such as SAN, NAS, and cloud storage
- Proficiency in automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Python, or Bash)
- Familiarity with database management and optimization, including SQL and NoSQL systems
- Experience implementing and managing disaster recovery and business continuity solutions
- Knowledge of security best practices, including identity management, SIEM tools, and vulnerability management
- Hands-on experience with monitoring and logging tools like Splunk, Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus
- Working knowledge of enterprise directory services and authentication protocols (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP, SAML, and OAuth)
- Proven track record of leading large-scale, complex IT initiatives
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to effectively communicate and present security risk concepts with non-technical stakeholders and cross-functional teams
Location
Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX with satellite offices in the Bay Area, CA, Golden, CO and Reno, NV. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Houston office will be required. Some travel is required for this position.
