About the job:
This classification is responsible for performing semi-skilled facility maintenance and projects. This position will be operating the Zamboni, sharpening skates, filling in as a Rink Monitor and had out skates to the public.
A day in the life:
The information provided below encompasses the typical duties and capabilities linked with this classification. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Monitors and maintains ice sheet. Operates ice resurfacer (Zamboni), edger and other equipment to maintain ice sheet. Assists in ice building and removal annually
- Maintains rental skate inventory including skate, sharpening and minor repairs. with public skates.
- Performs a variety of support roles as needed, including set-up/clean-up, assisting with skate rentals, scorekeeper, etc.
- Maintains equipment and keeps in clean and safe condition; operates equipment safely and with care at all times.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
- Contributes to positive work environment
- Identifies safety-related issues and ensures that safe conditions prevail in the facility.
- Assists with set-up and operation of special events.
- Provides assistance and guidance to facility users as needed.
- Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Tentative Schedule:
- Mondays: 4:00am-12:30pm
- Tuesdays: 10:00am-4:00pm
- Wednesdays: 10:00am-4:00pm
- Thursdays: 10:00am-4:00pm
- Fridays: 10:00am-4:00pm
This position will serve as the back up for the other opener, so if they are out, they could be asked to open at 4:00am other days of the week. If that occurred, the shift would be 4:00am-10:00am on those days.
**Training will occur during the opening shift 4:00am-10:00am for the first 2 weeks.

What we're looking for:
Education, Experience, and Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent; one year of trade or technical school preferred AND
- Two (2) years of experience in park services, public works, or related field, with emphasis on facility maintenance and/or specialized construction trade; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.
LICENSE:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy.
Supervision Received:
Works under the supervision of a supervisor. Follows standard processes and procedures without supervision but confirms changes to standard practices and significant decisions in advance.
Working Conditions:
The following are working conditions, including environmental and physical demands, required for this classification.
- Work is performed both indoors, outdoors and on ice sheet, and often involves working on or around mechanical systems.
- Use of machinery including ice resurfacer and edger
- Daily standing and walking on ice surface for sustained periods of time.
- May require working for emergency call-outs during off duty hours.
- Safety equipment, including shoes, gloves and eye protection are required.
- Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and constant use of hands and arms and may require overhead reaching.
- Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical work includes climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, keyboarding, and repetitive hand and feet motion.
