JOB SUMMARY
The Controls Build Job Leader II is responsible for the implementation of electrical and pneumatic systems on large scale automation projects and proficient in panel build, wiring, plumbing, and debugging. The position requires high quality workmanship, as well as meeting project deadlines, budgeted hours, leading a large team and managing multiple projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Train electricians in all aspects of controls build process.
- Participate in mechanical design and hardware review meetings.
- Identify break points and manage shipping constraints.
- Communicate essential project details with engineers.
- Assists in designing the cable management system and order necessary components (e.g., ladder track, wireway, cable tray).
- Review customer specifications and build documents to determine dimensions, operations sequence, and setup requirements.
- Assist in sizing and positioning pneumatic systems including air preps, shutoffs, and air headers.
- Keep the drawing packet updated with the latest revisions.
- Manage the job parts shelf, ensuring all necessary components are received.
- Oversee or lead the panel build process, make design adjustments as needed and communicating changes to hardware engineering.
- Perform tasks such as drilling, tapping holes, mounting wireways and DIN rails, and wiring components.
- Create cutouts and knockouts for enclosures.
- Prioritize and manage the controls build process to ensure efficient wiring and plumbing of the machine.
- Determine optimal locations and routing for external devices, including I/O blocks, valve banks, RFID readers, and junction boxes.
- Lead station wiring and establish the best paths for wiring and plumbing on sub-assemblies.
- Work with engineers, builders, and production personnel to resolve wiring or assembly issues.
- Lead the power-up procedure and conduct I/O checks with engineering assistance.
- Support debugging with engineering and mechanical build teams to ensure proper machine operation.
- Disassemble and package components for shipping.
- Oversee and lead installation processes at customer sites.
- Observe safety procedures.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Vocational or associate degree or higher in a related field.
- 5 or more years’ experience as an electrician in the automation industry.
- 2 years’ experience leading projects.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical components, wiring methods, and panel assembly techniques.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NEC, UL).
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Strong ability in using Microsoft Office.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic math: add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, percentages.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic electrical fundamentals.
- Ability to use the basic functions of a multi meter.
