Summary: Under the general guidance of the Manager of Information Systems, the Senior Network Administrator manages and optimizes Foothill’s network infrastructure. Provides technical expertise in the development and implementation of long-range technology solutions. Implements all network upgrades, analyzes and resolves network performance issues, oversees troubleshooting of network devices, supports IS technical staff, and is responsible for the continuous operation and functionality of all LAN/WAN equipment and cloud-hosted services. The position may require working weekends, holidays, and extended hours on short notice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The requirements below represent the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required but may not be all-inclusive. Additional functions and requirements may be assigned by supervisors as deemed appropriate.
- Monitor bandwidth utilization and configure policies to optimize network traffic
- Implement, administer, and troubleshoot a wide range of cloud and on-premise-based technology services and solutions, including switching, routing, and VPN connectivity
- Identify security issues and improve security posture to a satisfactory level or above on internal and external penetration tests; perform diagnosis on systems to troubleshoot and resolve system problems
- Configure, review and maintain firewall, servers, routers, switches, and software logs to resolve issues associated with security threats, hardware failure, software, and capacity issues
- Design, implement, and maintain robust and secure networks
- Conduct regular maintenance activities, applying updates and patches to keep the network environment current
- Manage help desk tickets to determine priority based on the criticality of issues and several users affected. Provide all team members with the highest level of support and service possible
- Implement all network upgrades, analyze and resolve network performance issues, oversee troubleshooting of network devices, and support IS technical staff
- Maintain all computer systems, including LAN and WAN equipment, to ensure all technology is in good operational condition. Ongoing security management and preparedness to prevent, detect, and eliminate viruses, spam, adware, spyware, phishing, network failures, and other threats to our computer environment as they become known
- Evaluate and make recommendations to Information Systems management regarding available software upgrades and patches to determine the need/feasibility/cost of installing in our environment
- Maintain daily and monthly checklists of critical systems. Prepare and update department procedures related to computer and telecommunications systems. Perform daily system backup and ensure data integrity of various servers
- Assist end-user with telephone and telecommunications-related issues, configuration and maintenance of phone system, voice mail, and audio response unit Manage the organization of software media, software licenses, systems passwords, and computer equipment. Maintains a current log of all computer equipment and server software
- Assist with the preparation, maintenance, and testing of Foothill’s disaster recovery plan and Business Continuity Plan (BCP)
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of a plan to audit end-users workstations on an ongoing semi-annual basis
- Responsible for cross-training Information System team members as backup knowledge of network protocols, traffic log analysis, and network security architecture
Experience/Education Requirements:
- Computer Science/MIS degree or related work experience; or equivalent combined education and work experience of a minimum of five (5) years
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in network administration plus a working knowledge of computer hardware and software is required
Certifications Requirements:
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)
- Knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, and other cloud platforms is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Fortinet firewalls is highly desirable
- Linux + or other Networking and Security certifications are highly desirable
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to travel within the branch network regularly
- Must have a method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions; if operating a motor vehicle, must have a valid driver's license and proof of at least minimum automobile insurance coverage as required by the State of California
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills to analyze security requirements and relate them to appropriate security controls
- Strong problem-solving skills in troubleshooting issues related to LAN/WAN, servers, PC routers, switches, hardware/software problems; working knowledge of Linux / AIX operating systems, communications, network standards and various cloud platforms
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to use discretion when handling confidential information
- Ability to get along with diverse personalities and population
- Must provide excellent customer service to team members
