Job Description:
This role will require a strong skill set of a Technical Writer/Editor, highly proficient in FrameMaker, and will be focused on the Technical Manual Support Services for the Aegis Weapon System (AWS).
Job Responsibilities:
- Will be responsible for accurately editing both format and structure for Technical Manuals for the Department of Navy
- Will be responsible for producing structured electronic manuals in SGML, XML and S1000D in compliance per Navy approved DTDs. Strong experience in FrameMaker is required, as is extensive experience with DOD documentation
- In this position, you will be part of a team that is key in providing detailed and precise Technical Manuals for the Navy (Ships, Subs, Military Watercraft, and Unmanned Systems)
- Execution of tasks supporting Technical Data Elements, development, distribution, and sustainment of required Technical Documentation, Manuals, Publications and Notices
- Development and update of IPS Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs)
- Support in execution of tasks in the areas of IPS, Sustainment Analysis, and Sustainment Planning
- Research, extract, analyze, and refine a wide variety of technical and non-technical material and information related to complex subjects
- Interpret information in a manner that facilitates the presentation of technical data accurately
- Write, edit, and prepare publication documents in a form suitable for intended audiences
- Determine the appropriate style, manner of presentation, and format for each writing assignment
- Manage writing projects from initial assignment through completion
- Identification and elevation of technical and schedule risks
- Development of processes and procedures
- Acting as a liaison with all engineering disciplines, such as Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Test, Materials and Processes, and Structural design functions
- Developing operator-level and maintainer-level documentation for complex Navy systems (ships, subs, military watercraft, and unmanned systems)
- Collaborating with functional management, program management and execution team to ensure technical success while balancing goals, approaches, and risks
Minimum Qualifications:
- An active Secret clearance is required to be considered for this position.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
- 2+ years’ experience technical writing and editing technical documentation in a military or civilian environment utilizing Arbortext, Quicksilver, and FrameMaker experience; Navy documents
- 2+ years’ experience interviewing and working with SMEs
- High School Diploma or GED
- Related experience in logistics, sustainment, support plans, provisioning, integration, life cycle management and technical manual development
- Microsoft Office (Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Access)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical Manual Management processes, Certification and Accreditation (C&A) for DOD
- Five (5) years of experience directly related to developing and producing interactive and/or online technical documentation
- 5+ years’ experience technical writing and editing technical manuals
- Experience authoring/editing in Adobe FrameMaker to current
- Demonstrated experience related to gathering and analyzing source material, and developing relevant curricula.
- Previous US Navy, DoD or other government publication experience highly desired
Security Clearance:
Applicants must have an active security clearance and/or the ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain a DoD government-granted security clearance.
