Job Summary
The Sanding Technician contributes to the overall sanding process at Bertch Cabinet, LLC. This may include all sanding processes throughout each facility.
A valid driver's license is required for this position as the Sanding Technician is required to service sanders in Jesup and Oelwein on a weekly to bi-weekly basis.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Follows all safety rules and contributes to a safe work environment.
- Follows established manufacturing procedures under assigned department which may include but is not limited to:
- Monitors procedures and techniques utilized by sanding machine operators and sanders.
- Checks quality on incoming sanding equipment, and sanding paper.
- Prepares sanding equipment for initial setup and specification tolerances.
- Monitors quality level of sanded products leaving all Mills.
- Monitors quality level of sanded products in all Assembly Plants, including white wood and finish seal sanding.
- Performs all checks and adjustments in a safe working manner.
- Furnishes reports as required by the Manager.
- Reports all processes and related discrepancies and adjustments to the Manager.
- Assists in assuring proper operation of equipment and processes in all sanding aspects of Bertch Cabinets.
- Ensures daily and weekly checks are being performed properly.
- Establishes and maintains good housekeeping guidelines for all sanding equipment.
- Works with assigned personnel to maximize productivity in a quality manner.
- Assists and tests new sandpaper with current or potential new vendors.
- Participates and contributes to a Work Team environment and follows quality control checks.
- Follows all Safety Rules and contributes to a safe work environment
- Contributes to meeting Bertch manufacturing schedule.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
Required Education, Training or Experience
- Must be fully trained and able to perform the required job tasks in the assigned department.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read measurement tools.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
- Ability to work with and train associates in the sanding processes.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, bend, push, pull, and move materials up to or exceeding 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand or walk an entire shift (can be 8-10 hours)
Work Environment
Employees must be able to cope with Iowa climates; endure heat and cold conditions in the building. Fast paced workloads and loud noise levels are normal. Paint fumes and exposure to chemicals associated may be present. Personal Protective Equipment as required by OSHA will be provided by the Company.
