JOB SUMMARY 


Camp Counselors/Unit Counselors further the mission of Girl Scouts of Texas Oklahoma Plains (GSTOP) through Stevens Ranch Resident Camp programming. Camp Counselors ensure the physical, mental, and emotional safety of campers, help facilitate camp programs, and facilitate community building within the camper group and the entire camp.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

  • Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their living unit, within activities and throughout the camp to meet the intended camper outcomes. 
  • Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth. 
  • Assure campers are properly always supervised. 
  • Be aware of and implement safety guidelines. 
  • Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes. 
  • Responsible for leading and assisting with the teaching of activities. 
  • Actively participate in all program areas as assigned. 
  • Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities. 
  • Assist in program areas such as waterfront, nature, all camp activities, and arts and crafts as directed. 
  • Maintain a high standard of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff. 
  • Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs. 
  • Ensure that campers receive their medications as directed by the health care manager. 
  • Be alert to campers and staff needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems and discuss with your Unit Leader, Health Supervisor, and/or Resident Camp Director when appropriate. 
  • Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to your Unit Leader. 
  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior. 
  • Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures. 
  • Set a good example to campers and others regarding general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Minimum 18 years of age.  
  • Required valid CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (will be provided if needed). 
  • Commitment to the mission and purpose of Girl Scouting. 
  • Membership in Girl Scout organization. 
  • Must be willing to work with all persons without regard to race, religion, ethnic origin, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, or disability. 
  • Experience and/or education in general Outdoor Education or Girl Scouts. 
  • Ability to coordinate on-site business activities. 
  • Desire and ability to work with children and adults in a camp community.  
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines and produce results. 
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • Verbal fluency, good grammar, and professional appearance. 
  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license in the state were employee works/resides, with an acceptable driving record, acceptable insurance, and reliable transportation. 
  • Must complete and pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle records check, and drug screening.

  • Ability and willingness to work in an environment including exposure to environmental allergens including dust, mold, pollen, live birds, insects, and other animals.  
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Staff Training Week: June 2-6, 2025
  • Camp Week1: June 8-13, 2025
  • Camp Week 2: June 15-20, 2025
  • Camp Week 3: June 22-27, 2025
  • Camp Week 4: July 6-11, 2025
  • Camp Week 5: July 13-18, 2025
  • Staff Camp Close Down Week: July 21-25, 2025

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

  • Required valid CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (will be provided if needed).

$450.00 Weekly
