Land Planning Intern
Description

Ragan Smith is seeking a paid full-time Land Planning Intern to join our Transportation, Landscape Architecture and Land Planning team. The ideal candidate is creative, collaborative, has a passion for creating places that are authentic, innovative, and functional and has strong communication skills. This position will have an opportunity to work on a broad range of projects with a focus on public sector work and community planning and design comprehensive community and area planning, parks and recreation projects, transportation planning, streetscape and urban placemaking design, green infrastructure, and downtown master planning. 


The Planning Intern will have access to professionals of various backgrounds and expertise across our multi-disciplinary firm. RaganSmith interns hit the ground running with opportunities to contribute to a team with research, site design concepts, and graphic design skills from day one. Interns will be introduced to all aspects of working in a professional consulting practice including project set up and approach, design process, business development, and project accounting. Responsibilities

  • Review planning and design documents throughout a project lifecycle 
  • Assist communities in pursuing potential grant opportunities and assisting with project grant administration
  • Assist in the production of graphics and narrative elements of planning maps, reports and exhibits in InDesign, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office platforms 
  • Assist with coordination and presentations at meetings with clients, design professionals, reviewing agencies, state agencies, development districts, and nonprofit agencies
  • Conduct field work, collect parcel data and search land records 
  • Support senior planners and/or project managers in producing documents for local, state, and federal projects 
  • Participate in survey development and document community engagement and public input
  • Additional related duties as needed

Requirements

  • Working towards a bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban planning or related field 
  • Portfolio of previous project experience, research projects, or past internship projects.
  • Technical abilities or training aptitude in GIS ArcView, Microsoft Office, InDesign and Photoshop platforms
  • Adaptability and time management
  • Strong communication and community engagement skills
