Role Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Technical Document Writer to join our team. This role involves creating, revising, and maintaining internal technical documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, process documentation, and training materials. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure all technical documentation is accurate, clear, and aligned with company standards and regulatory requirements.
The Technical Document Writer will interpret several internal processes. This may include welding applications, assembly steps, powder coating methods, etc. Note-taking is a critical skill set as the writer may only have a short time to write down all the steps and explanations. The writer must be fully prepared to document all necessary information to further explain in a manner applicable to multiple audiences. Documentation of each step must be done clearly and concisely.
Solid Works Composer is utilized for visual representation in most documents. Strong experience using Solid Works Composer is necessary, but will not be required for job application.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Develop and maintain technical documents such as SOPs, user manuals, maintenance guides, and process instructions
- Work closely with engineers and production managers to gather and clarify technical information
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation for various audiences
- Ensure all documentation complies with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies
- Regularly review and update existing documents to reflect process changes or improvements
- Manage documentation projects from inception to completion, ensuring timely delivery
- Maintain a centralized documentation system to organize and store internal technical resources
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a focus on clarity and precision.
- Ability to understand and interpret technical and engineering drawings.
- Proficiency in document management tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, etc.)
- Experience creating visual aids with strong presentation skills (e.g.: 3D diagrams, isometric views, exploded drawings, 2D drawings, CAD software, etc.)
- Solid Works Composer experience is highly preferred
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality standards, and regulatory compliance (e.g., ISO, OSHA)
- Excellent project management and organizational skills in order to plan around set deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration
- The ability to work with people of all levels and backgrounds and an understanding of the product about which the document is being written
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Measure and read up to 1/16” on a tape measure
EDUCATION
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical field (i.e.: Communication, Technical Writing, English, Engineering, Industrial Technology, etc.)
- 2 - 4 years industry experience as an effective technical writer, preferably in the manufacturing industry
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Fast-paced environment with others relying on completion of tasks
- Sitting often - at a desk, operating computer
- Standing/walking often - throughout the facility
- Office environment with swamp-cooler AC
- The shop environment is without AC and can be hot; fans are available in some areas of the building
- The Technical Writer is expected to be out on the floor at times, interacting with employ-ees and following up on processes
- Dress code is casual: closed–toed safety shoes are required, tank tops are not permit-ted, shorts are allowed while working in some departments
- All employees are required to wear eye protection while in the shop
COMPENSATION
- Non-Exempt position; Pay range: $18.00 - $24.00 an hour
- Final compensation will be determined and based on experience
- This range is a good faith estimate of the expected salary for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience and training, operational and business needs, and other considerations permitted by law
