We are seeking an Ophthalmic Scribe who will be responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status. *Overtime may be required. Must be willing to travel to other locations.
Job Responsibilities:
Documentation:
- Summarize and document physician's examination findings, including additions to the chief complaint and treatment recommendations.
- Understand required examination components for proper CPT coding and ensure accurate completion.
- Comply with Medicare and insurance requirements for quality reporting.
Patient Assistance:
- Assist during examinations by holding the patient's head, providing medications or instruments, and following directions in emergencies.
- Monitor patient communication and assist in repeating instructions or providing written materials as needed.
- Ensure patients comprehend all instructions and information provided.
Clinic Support:
- Maintain patient flow by seating them in exam rooms and preparing them for physician consultation.
- Remain close to the physician during clinic sessions to accurately document findings.
- Prepare prescriptions and alert physicians to patient-related forms needing completion.
Billing and Follow-Up:
- Assist in completing superbills or entering billing orders as directed by the physician.
- Guide patients to the front desk for check-out and ensure proper follow-up appointments are scheduled.
- Learn physician preferences and accommodate them during interactions.
Patient Comfort and Room Maintenance:
- Monitor examination room conditions and patient needs, ensuring a comfortable and efficient environment.
- Assist patients with mobility and provide support as needed during the examination process.
- Evaluate examination room supplies and notify appropriate personnel of any deficiencies.
Communication and Coordination:
- Notify physicians of changes to the daily schedule, particularly emergencies.
- Facilitate communication between physicians and staff to minimize clinic disruptions.
Additional Tasks:
- Perform other duties as required to support clinic operations.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid and active Driver’s License.
- Two years of work experience and/or Ophthalmic Assistant Certification preferred.
