An experienced GIS technician will assist our engineering and GIS fiber operations and project manage our permits by compiling, analyzing, and managing GIS data.
Responsibilities include spatial/tabular data processing, cartographic production/digital mapping (web), data management, data collection and data entry, and other tasks within the company’s engineering and GIS operations. Additional infrastructure management software will be utilized with GIS workflows.
- Work collaboratively in a remote team setting with other staff members to complete various engineering and GIS projects.
- Assists with GIS data management for new construction, and existing/future fiber facilities.
- Participates with internal and external construction work activities to ensure conformance with industry specifications.
- Attends various meetings with management, departments and external parties to ensure company objectives are met.
- Assists in processes for utility pole attachment licensing.
- Project manages state, county, and local permitting.
- Willingness to learn additional fiber management software(s) as needed.
- Perform other related job functions as assigned.
This position is remote, New York State or New England home location is preferred.
- Skilled with GIS software (Esri’s ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online preferred), data management, and digital mapping (web GIS).
- Skilled with Microsoft 365 and its applications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to track, prioritize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously in a remote team environment.

- Skilled in operating various office equipment such as personal computer, various software programs, mobile applications, and video conference systems.
- Expertise in reading and interpreting technical documents and forms including work orders, staking sheets, schematics and specification manuals.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, permitting organizations, and various business contacts professionally and courteously.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in geography, GIS, engineering, computer science, or related field. OR substituting any demonstrated combination of experience and education, which provides the applicant with the required knowledge and abilities.
One year (minimum) of experience in the use of Esri Products (ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS Enterprise) and relational databases.
