Description

Position Summary

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical and electrical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties. Diagnosis electronic devices using test equipment and schematics. Recommends and implements cost efficient repairs.


Organizational Interrelationships

The maintenance mechanic reports to the Facilities Supervisor, who reports to the Vice President. The maintenance mechanic interacts with other members of the management team (who may also provide day-to-day direction), as well as other manufacturing (grinding, tool and secondary operations departments), quality assurance and engineering personnel.

Requirements

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to adhering to the policies of the company outlined in the PGM Employee Handbook, an individual serving in the capacity of maintenance mechanic shall consistently be able to:

  1. Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  2. Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  3. Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  4. Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  5. Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  6. Repair or replace defective parts. Install special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricate and clean parts.
  7. Start devices to test their performance.
  8. Set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  9. Initiate purchase orders for parts and machines. 
  10.  Repair electrical equipment.
  11. Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or four to ten+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

 

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and general public.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands or fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific visual abilities required for this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to monitor product visually. 

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock. There is some exposure to heat and vibrating or oscillating machinery. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Salary Description
$25 to $35 per hour
