Description
Overview: Get ready for an action-packed summer filled with hands-on learning, trips and silly fun! Provide care and guidance for campers ages 5-14. Give campers a unique and fun summer in a safe and nurturing environment. The Summer Camp Counselor will work cooperatively with the home base teaching team to maintain the quality of the JCC School Age Program, providing excellent care and education for children, and building strong partnerships with families.
General Responsibilities:
- ·Positively and actively, promote the JCC’s mission, membership, programs, events, and charitable purpose to JCC Early Childhood families, members, staff, guests, and the public.
- Provide a nurturing environment in which all children feel welcomed and secure.
- Meet Keystone Stars* standards
- Adhere to the standards outlined in the School Age Program Handbook for: Following DHS regulations, Communicating with families, Care of facility and equipment, Record keeping, Curriculum, Health and safety procedures, Teamwork, including regular attendance at assigned meetings
- Assist as a substitute for absent staff in ECE programs outside of school-age program hours.
- Maintain open communication with families, addressing inquiries, concerns, and providing updates as needed
- Conduct yourself in a manner that provides a positive role model.
- Promote the development of relationships; allow campers opportunities to learn new skills.
- Work as a team with your co-counselors and specialists.: Time used to support the JCC in meeting Keystone Stars standards is funded by Keystone Stars. If the JCC should lose this funding, then that portion of time and salary would be absorbed into the operating budget.
Requirements
Performance Expectations:
- Understand/possess an openness to Jewish religion and traditions
- Attend all meetings and events that support the department’s main objectives and responsibilities
- Positively and actively promote the JCC’s mission, membership, programs, events, and charitable purpose to JCC members and the general public
- Be familiar with the mission, vision statements, and Core Values of the JCC. Model the Core Values while working and communicating with members and staff
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers
- Plan and organize age-appropriate activities and games
- Serve as a positive role model for campers
- Communicate effectively with campers, fellow staff and parents
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies or unexpected situations
- Foster a sense of community and inclusivity
Skills and Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED
- At least 18 years old
- Must be able to participate in children’s active indoor and outdoor play
- Strong oral and written communications skills, technology skills.
- Ability to work well with others (families, staff, children and community members) and to foster a team environment.
- Must clear full background checks and clearances – PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, National Sex Offender Registry, and FBI
- Must pass health screening with a TB test.
- Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds
