Production Planner / Scheduler
The Production Planner / Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and prioritizing workflow across multiple CNC work centers and production teams to ensure the timely and efficient movement of products through the manufacturing cycle, meeting customer requirements. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of responding effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This individual must possess a positive attitude, strong communication skills, and the ability to motivate and collaborate with others to achieve production goals. Proficiency in Excel and problem-solving skills are essential. The position reports directly to the Production Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Production Scheduling & Planning:
- Develop and maintain production schedules for various units and personnel to ensure customer orders are completed on time.
- Forecast future production needs and adjust schedules as necessary to accommodate changes in demand and capacity.
- Communication & Coordination:
- Collaborate daily with production supervisors, shipping supervisors, and managers to communicate production goals, prioritize workflow, and resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Proactively provide updates to stakeholders, including raw materials status, supplier schedules, and inter-departmental progress to ensure alignment and timely execution.
- Maintain open and clear communication channels with customer service to address any changes in delivery dates and provide order status updates.
- Production Tracking & Reporting:
- Monitor production progress and make necessary adjustments to keep the process on schedule.
- Prepare detailed reports on production goals, workflow trends, and on-time delivery statistics for internal and external stakeholders.
- Track and evaluate on-time delivery performance and provide solutions for continuous improvement.
- Evaluate and research On-Time delivery report cards as required by customers to understand and address any performance gaps.
- Problem Solving & Process Improvement:
- Identify bottlenecks and recommend process improvements to streamline operations.
- Assist the Production Manager in developing alternative solutions to address production challenges.
- Cross-Departmental Coordination:
- Coordinate with the Purchasing Department to align outside supplier schedules and ensure on-time delivery of outsourced items.
- Ensure all production documentation is maintained at the correct revision level.
- Compliance & Reporting:
- Review shipping schedules regularly to ensure production aligns with capacity and revenue targets.
- Maintain thorough documentation and reporting of all production activities, ensuring compliance with company standards and customer requirements.
- Additional Duties:
- Keep the Production Manager, VP of Operations, and other key personnel informed of any significant issues or changes in production status.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Production Manager or VP of Operations
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent technical training; Associate’s Degree in Business Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of production planning experience, preferably in sheet metal fabrication or machining operations.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Excel and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Spanish is a plus.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic math skills related to business applications and an understanding of core business concepts.
- Ability to forecast production needs and adapt to changing conditions.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles is a plus.
