Design Engineer II
Description

 Summary: Applies engineering principles and material science to design, develop and test new products and modify and improve existing products. On-site position in West Chicago, IL.


Supervisory Responsibilities: No


Duties/Responsibilities:

· Research and propose new products to enhance the company’s product line.

· Analyze various design requirements and recommend possible solutions or alternate constructions.

· Review approved project plans with management to establish parameters and overall objectives.

· Develop preliminary product part and component design drawings and specify materials, dimension, load and torque, stress, structure, and tolerance requirements.

· Develop project and/or product cost estimates and tentative time schedules.

· Conduct and analyze test results, examine prototypes, and modify product designs as necessary to meet project objectives.

· Work with vendors to develop final product manufacturing methods & costs. 

· Troubleshoot product manufacturing problems as requested.

· Keep abreast of technological developments in the field.

· Prepare layouts, assembly, and detail drawings for customized products.

· Participate or facilitate periodic meetings as required.

· Evaluate and test competitive products.

· Create new part number schemes and maintain existing part numbers

· Direct work of engineering model shop to construct prototype models.

· Maintain product drawings.

· Design and build test and production fixtures as required.

· Maintain clean working environment.

· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

· Proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word, & Excel, etc.

· Proficient with 3D computer aided drafting (CAD) software, SolidWorks preferred

· Strong understanding of engineering principles and design processes.

· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

· Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment.

· Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

· Thorough understanding of prototyping and manufacturing processes.

· Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.

· Must possess career initiative and leadership ambition.

· Solid interpersonal, customer service and communication skills.

· Ability to stay organized and also prioritize multiple projects.


Education/Experience:

· Five years or more of relevant design experience.

· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics, or equivalent experience.


Physical Requirements:

· Able to lift 40 pounds.
