Description

The Academic Center Coordinator reports to the Middle School Principal and works closely with administrative staff, faculty, students, and parents. The Academic Center Coordinator does not supervise or evaluate faculty or staff although he/she does assist teachers to assure that program related goals are being met and designated curriculum is implemented. A Bachelor’s Degree In Education is required (Master’s Degree preferred) for this position. A special education degree or licensed endorsement is also required.


The Academic Center Coordinator must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to communicate and relate well to both children and adults. This person should project a professional appearance at all times. This person should have the personality and ability to provide leadership and stability in the program and communicate effectively with parents and students. 


Requirements


Responsibilities to students include:

  • Be a role model for children 
  • Value diversity and provide, as much as possible, for individual needs

  • Be responsible for the planning, supervision, and implementation of the program in accordance with the policies of the school 
  • Develop academic plans for students with diagnosed learning needs 
  • Maintain record of individual student accommodations, provide those accommodations to teachers and assure they are being followed 
  • Assist teachers in student accommodations (provide place for extended time, read tests, etc.) when possible 
  • Observe and/or screen students when requested by teachers 
  • Oversee on site tutoring for students 
  • Evaluate student progress in academics, social and emotional areas 
  • Encourage critical thinking and problem solving 
  • Help each child develop a positive sense of self-worth, of independence, and a sense of responsibility and self-direction 
  • Maintain confidentiality of individual students 

Responsibilities to the School include:  

  • Have knowledge of teaching and learning theories, psychology of learning and development, instructional development, and curriculum development 
  • Submit all records, reports, evaluations, inventories, etc. promptly 
  • Interview and hire tutors for the Middle School
  • Maintain the Warrior Boost schedule and make sure tutors can teach each small group.
  • Analyze benchmark assessments for entire student body and determine students who need tutoring support through Warrior Boost.
  • Keep records of numbers of students who are served by the Academic Center.
  • Keep a record of Warrior Boost attendance and charges.
  • Report charges for Warrior Boost to student billing in the business office at the end of each month..
  • Keep a record of tutoring logs and send those to payroll in the business office each pay period.
  • Attend all school and division meeting and recommended training programs 
  • Attend new family interviews as requested by the building principal.
  • Attend evening school events as requested 
  • Participate in conferences, courses, teaching demonstrations, and extra duties when requested 
  • Serve on various committees as requested 
  • Obtain a substitute when absent from school, if necessary 
  • Meet with classroom teacher regularly to plan for instruction and assess student progress 
  • Work alongside the librarian to provide library space and resources for students. 
  • Serve as a resource for teachers 
  • Maintain professional appearance and behave in a manner appropriate to the position
  • Perform reliably and dependably with a good record of attendance, punctuality, flexibility and time management 
  • Develop job related goals and objectives 
  • Value and support members of the school community 
  • Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the school at all times 
  • Research, promote and/or provide opportunities for professional development as related to children and learning 
  • Adhere to concussion policies for all students and communicate with teachers when a student is in concussion protocol. 
  • Comfortable co-teaching or re-teaching in middle school content areas. 
  • Adhere to all school policies as contained in the CAK Employee Handbook 


Responsibilities to parents and the community include:

  • Attend parent-teacher conferences, as requested, as well as meet with parents whenever necessary during the school year 
  • Meet with parents annually to review accommodations, assessments, and develop academic plan for upcoming year, if required 
  • Email parents quarterly regarding Warrior Boost placement.
  • Return phone calls and emails promptly 
  • Maintain confidentiality 
  • Encourage good parent-teacher relations 
  • Be a role model in the community 



Responsibilities for professional growth and development include:

  • Attend and participate in professional conferences, lectures, or other educational events 
  • Attain membership in appropriate educational organizations 
  • Keep current on educational issues through research and study 
  • Participate in professional faculty and program evaluations
