Description

Under the direction of the Department Manager, the Machine Operator ensures the production of company products at the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost, meeting company policies and procedures. The Machine Operator will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time. 


The general purpose of the Machine Operator is to operate machines to perform one or more machine functions on metal work pieces.


  • Maintaining safe work habits and a work area abiding by all safety policies
  • Lift and load work pieces into the machine
  • Takes the first part to QC Lab for first piece inspection approval (Must be able to operate Portage Table) or get assistants from Quality Tech
  • Sets approved first piece at the machine center for reference until job is completed
  • Checks all the dimensions and Process notes specified on the In-Process Inspection Report (Deburring countersink, or other minor operations to finish the piece)
  • Performs final piece count, print tag and enter production in Shop-Trak when the order is done
  • Performs required cleaning of machine and area
  • Performs any and all other duties assigned by management

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  


Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concreate variable in standardized situations. 




Physical Demands

Physical Demands refers to the level and/or duration of physical exertion generally required to perform occupational takes (sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing and pulling).


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. 


The employee must frequently lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. 


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and occasionally exposed to work near wet or humid conditions (non-weather).


The noise level in typically loud in this work environment. Hearing protection is required. 


Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
