Position Reports To: Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications


Classification: Salaried, non-exempt


Purpose: The Marketing and Communications Specialist assists in the management of marketing needs of the organization including digital communications and advertising, timely communications across various user platforms and assisting in the creation and implementation of marketing campaigns.


Salary: $38,500

Location: Girl Scout Volunteer and Resource Center-Charleston, WV


Essential Roles and Responsibilities:


Marketing Planning/Implementation and Development of Materials:

• Collaborate with the Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications to implement marketing campaigns and digital advertising in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Create engaging written, visual, and video content to tell the Girl Scout story with a key understanding of the brand, the latest research, and our outcomes.


Media and Audience Relations:

• Manage internal communication pieces across various user platforms.

• Serve as a council media representative when needed.

• Assist with the planning and implementation of external events to raise awareness.

• Provide support with media relations to ensure they promote a positive public image and enhance coverage of our brand.

• Assist in the management of the council website.

• Other related duties as assigned.


Requirements

Essential Requirements:

• Creativity and marketing skills with working knowledge of photography, layout, and graphic design.

• Ability to review and comprehend data to plan, build and implement digital advertising and communications strategies per council goals.

• Technical computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok) and e-marketing systems and basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud. Ability to learn new software as required.

• Website management experience preferred.

• Exceptional communication skills, including grammar, writing, editing, proofreading and public speaking.

• Ability to manage priorities and procedures for accomplishing work assignments from/for multiple departments with the ability to sometimes work under pressure and shift priorities in response to changing needs.

• Must have reliable transportation with insurance at the required state level.

• Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekends when required.

• Become a registered member of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America.


Required Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred; associates and/or equivalent experience accepted.

• Candidates with a minimum of two years’ relatable experience prioritized.


Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

• Ability to lift, carry and transport at least 35 lbs.

• Must be able to sit in a meeting or at a workstation and a computer screen for up to two hours.

• Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer screen and extensive reading.
