Description

  

The primary responsibility of the Health and Safety Associate is to provide leadership, develop, and assist in establishment and execution for industrial hygiene, safety, and emergency planning programs. This includes reviewing and analyzing corporate standards, assessing risks to people and assets, evaluating program effectiveness, developing strategies to manage identified risks, and establishing new and improving existing health, safety, security, and emergency response programs.

In addition to developing and implementing corporate standards, the Health and Safety Associate will be responsible for identifying emerging risks and developing programs to address new regulations. 

Other key responsibilities include developing site-specific Health and Safety Plans, conducting audits of health, safety, security, and emergency plans and programs, assessment of adherence to company policies, standards, and procedures; verification of compliance with applicable laws, regulations and consensus standards.

Principal Accountabilities:

  •  Provide leadership to operations in the development and implementation of health, safety, security and emergency planning.
  • Develop and implement emergency management programs to support field operations. Train team members on the plan requirements and conduct emergency drills and exercises.
  • Support business development and field service activities by developing site-specific health and safety plans.
  • Develop and train teams on general safety topics including HAZWOPER, HAZCOM, basic rescue, basic first aid, site specific safety plans and other pertinent topics. Establish, train, and maintain training for field and staff personnel to accomplish company objectives. 
  • Conduct root cause analysis and develop improvement plans to meet company objectives. 
  • Conduct routine audits and inspections of operations. Ensure compliance with corporate standards. Provide leadership to meet federal, state and local regulations and national consensus standards. Make recommendations and ensure closure of issues with responsible managers.
  • Ensure compliance with all companies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, policies, and procedures including preparing and assisting with IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) reporting
  • Maintain compliance in DISA, ISNetword, Avetta and other programs as necessary 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.  
Requirements

  

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, industrial hygiene, safety, engineering or equivalent work experience. (preferred) 
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), General Safety Professional (GSP) or other safety designation desired.

Skills:

  • Expert understanding of OSHA regulations.
  • Experience in FMCSA – DOT plus Hazardous Materials Regulations
  • Experience in Environmental, Health, Safety, and Transportation
  • Experience in implementing a variety of occupational health and safety programs.
  • Ability to conduct investigations and evaluations and evaluating cost and risk factors.
  • Experience working with DISA, ISNetworld, and Avetta
  • Highly developed verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work with hourly employees, operations staff and management at various levels.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of process industry, field safety, or industrial cleaning related work experience
