DESCRIPTION
Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for leading and delivering group fitness instruction ranging in variety and level from aerobic activity, muscular strength, stretch, dance, yoga or mind body disciplines. This includes developing and organizing choreography, movement sequencing and progression, cueing participants set up, safety, execution, and more. The instructor must be high energy, motivating, and a relationship builder who will help others reach their goals through exercise while having fun. Group Exercise Instructors report to the Recreation Manager - Aquatics and Fitness.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Group Exercise Class certification (ie. AFAA)
- Good customer service skills & ability to teach
- CPR certification
- Ability to lift 40 pounds.
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Ability to understand and exhibit behavior consistent with the stated park district policy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, instruct & choreograph classes.
- Provide class description, lesson plans and schedule to supervisor.
- Interact with patrons and park district staff in a professional and positive manner.
- Maintain education & qualifications within fitness industry.
- Keep routines fresh, creative and current.
- Start & finish class on time.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure choreography is appropriate for class and is easy to follow.
- Provide modifications for low and high intensity.
- Incorporate an educational component into your program.
- Provide positive reinforcement.
- Display high level of attentiveness & supervision while teaching.
- Promote class to Huntley Park District community to attract enrollment.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Worker may be exposed to chemicals (cleaning materials).
- Worker may be exposed to indoor or outdoor conditions.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- While performing this job, the employee is required to speak and listen, stand, walk, use hands, sit, stoop or kneel, bend and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision requirements include, distance, color vision, peripheral and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Workers are allowed and encouraged to use mechanical or manual assists for lifting above 40 lbs. as a guideline.
- Worker must be able to follow directions with safe follow through and exercise good judgment and safety awareness.

- Assure a safe and hazard free environment by inspecting and taking the necessary action to correct and safeguard against potential problems and/or accidents.

- Worker will use all required PPE.
- All unsafe conditions are to be reported to your supervisor immediately.
