Description
Job Summary:
Performs molecular genetic assays and general laboratory maintenance for the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Carries out laboratory procedures such as library preparations, amplification, enrichment, library dilutions, sample pooling, sample quantification and quality assessment, and loading of samples onto sequencers.
- Performs administrative tasks such as sample tracking, pooling documentation, and sample sheet creation.
- Assists with special projects for validation and implementation of new NGS products and procedures.
- Maintains records of laboratory work and sample tracking.
- Follows all laboratory protocols and policies, including quality control and quality system activities, and documents appropriately all records, deviations, and corrective actions as required.
- Operates and maintains sophisticated laboratory equipment, including Beckman and Tecan automated liquid handlers; Agilent Tapestation; and Next Generation Sequencing instruments.
- Monitors and maintains supply inventories and reagent stocks.
- Assists with general maintenance and organization for the team / department.
- Assists with troubleshooting issues with assays, equipment, or procedures.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- 4- year Bachelor degree or higher a Biological Science or related field
- Computer literacy of Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in writing
- Minimum of 1 year previous laboratory experience with Next Generation Sequencing procedures
- 3+ years of general laboratory experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, qPCR, NGS, Illumina SNP arrays, DNA extractions, capillary electrophoresis, etc.)
