Laboratory Technician – NGS (Experienced)
Description

Job Summary: 

Performs molecular genetic assays and general laboratory maintenance for  the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) team.  


Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Carries out laboratory procedures such as library preparations, amplification, enrichment, library dilutions, sample pooling, sample quantification and quality assessment, and loading of samples onto sequencers.
  • Performs administrative tasks such as sample tracking, pooling documentation, and  sample sheet creation. 
  • Assists with special projects for validation and implementation of new NGS products and  procedures. 
  • Maintains records of laboratory work and sample tracking. 
  • Follows all laboratory protocols and policies, including quality control and quality system  activities, and documents appropriately all records, deviations, and corrective actions as  required. 
  • Operates and maintains sophisticated laboratory equipment, including Beckman and  Tecan automated liquid handlers; Agilent Tapestation; and Next Generation Sequencing  instruments. 
  • Monitors and maintains supply inventories and reagent stocks. 
  • Assists with general maintenance and organization for the team / department.
  • Assists with troubleshooting issues with assays, equipment, or procedures.  
Requirements

Required Qualifications: 

  • 4- year Bachelor degree or higher a Biological Science or related field
  • Computer literacy of Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets 
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in writing 
  • Minimum of 1 year previous laboratory experience with Next Generation Sequencing  procedures 
  • 3+ years of general laboratory experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR,  qPCR, NGS, Illumina SNP arrays, DNA extractions, capillary electrophoresis, etc.)
