Description:

The Lutheran Church in Liberia (LCL) has 59 parishes, 9 districts, and over 300 congregations. The church membership is over 120,000 people.  The LCL’s mission is to preach, teach, and heal all people through the power of the Holy Spirit, with the vision of self-propagation, self-governance, and self-sustainability. 


Position Description:

The Lutheran Church in Liberia (LCL) is seeking a qualified and experienced financial investment consultant. The volunteer will advise the LCL’s investment board regarding strategies for maximizing gains from the church’s assets and investment portfolio for the long-term sustainability of the church and its ministries. The initial task of the consultant will be to work with the investment board to assess the current investment strategies of the church and to recommend improvements and remedial actions. The consultant will also work with the investment board in formulating a long-term investment strategy for the LCL. The consultant can work both in person from Liberia and virtually through e-mail, zoom, WhatsApp and other relevant media platforms from their home base. Based on the availability of resources it would be advisable for the consultant to spend up to three months in Liberia.


Assignment Includes:

  • Work with the Investment Board to access the LCL existing properties.
  • Help identify any properties that are valid for income generation for a sustainable investment.
  • Advise the LCL regarding the set up and structure of the LCL’s development and the investment organ/office that will manage the LCL’S future investments. 
Requirements

Experience and Skills:

  • Experience in financial investments and consultation
  • Degree in Financial Management with emphasis in investment or related field
  • Openness to various expressions of Christian faith and respect for people of other faiths
  • Respect for beliefs, values and customs of church and culture
  • Well-developed inter-personal skills demonstrating understanding and compassion
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out the responsibilities and the ability to adapt to different standards and practices
  • Ability to work within the framework of a local administration
  • Adaptable and flexible - sense of humor - good physical and emotional health
  • Live and serve in a way which reflects the vision and  expectations of the ELCA

Terms and Conditions:

  •  The LCL is requesting an initial commitment of a renewable six (6) month volunteer based on the work progress and agreement between the volunteer and the church. The LCL revitalization process could last for 3 years. After the initial 6 month period the volunteer could continue to make contributions to the process based on availability and time.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone. This position requires sitting for long periods of time. Employee will occasionally need to lift boxes or materials up to 15 pounds.
