Job Summary:
The Faith Formation Assistant is responsible for assisting the Faith formation in all areas of the ministry. This is a part-time position. The position reports to the Director of Faith Formation.
Ministerial Character
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the Parish (St. Helen Catholic Church - Georgetown, Texas) which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St. Helen Catholic Church - Georgetown, Texas help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Job Duties:
- As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Helen Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life.
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.

- Support the day-to-day operations of the Faith Formation Office.
- Attend and prepare all the tasks needed to support the following: faith formation registration, catechist formation day, religious ceremonies like the Easter Vigil or O.C.I.A. rites, retreats, training sessions, R.E. classes in both Spanish and English, Vacation Bible School (VBS) and any other activity as directed.
- Provide general administrative support including but not limited to preparing correspondence, emails, forms, program letters and translating English and Spanish documents.
- Maintain updated databases, including, but not limited to scan documents registrations, participant records, family records, volunteer lists, schedules, attendance, reports, sacramental paperwork, sacramental records, etc.
- Prepare and submit the information for the parish weekly bulletin and Mass announcements in a timely manner.
- Other administrative and clerical tasks assigned, including but not limited to coordination and calendaring of events; creating and printing event programs and nametags; printing parish notifications.
- Support basic accounting tasks as assigned such as payment, posting, statements, etc…
- Maintains availability throughout the week in order to serve the needs of the parish to include pastor, staff, and volunteers during and outside of normal church office hours; weekends and some evenings will be required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Roman Catholic teachings, parish and diocesan structure.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural parish serving various cultures and a wide range of age groups.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, and laity.
- Ability to build authentic relationships with adults rooted in Christ.
- Ability to effectively work with constant interruptions.
- Ability to operate various word-processing software, spreadsheets, and database programs.
- Ability to organize, prioritize and utilize effective time management techniques.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Ability to carry out multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and implement creative solutions.
- Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
- Ability to proficiently communicate in English and Spanish (writing, reading and conversing).
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Trainings:
- High School Diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency.
Experience:
- Two (2) years of experience working is required.
Language:
- Read, write, and converse proficiently in both English and Spanish.
Catholic Requirement:
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
