Description

 

Rahal Letterman Lanigan is looking for an IndyCar Mechanic! This position ensures the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of race vehicles through meticulous maintenance, repair, and fine-tuning. Their expertise and dedication play a critical role in achieving peak performance and success on the track. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Safety: 

  • Prioritize a “Safety First” approach in all tasks and projects. 
  • Ensure all work performed on cars is thoroughly completed and meets safety standards before releasing the vehicle to the track.  

Procedures and Car Build: 

  • Adhere to Dallara and RLL procedures, ensuring cars are built to specification and meet organizational standards. 
  • Understand and accurately follow setup and build sheets to achieve precise vehicle assembly.   

Wok Area Maintenance 

  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace daily, both in shop and at the track.  
  • Conduct in-depth clean-ups of the designated area on a weekly basis.  

Reporting and Team Collaboration: 

  • Follow the reporting and supervisory structure as outlined in the department organization chart.  
  • Assist with loading and unlading vehicles, managing spares, setting up and tearing down the garage and tent areas. 
  • Work in conjunction with mechanics and the rest of the team, to ensure completion and security of work done on cars. 
  • Understand chassis setup and stay current with the sanctioning body rule book. 
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities that are related to the job. 
Requirements

 SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Complete racecar tasks under the direction of the Chief Mechanic, meeting all deadlines.   
  • Install and maintain motor installation, gearbox installation, driveshaft-suspension maintenance, cooling system, fuel system, completion, and security of all ancillary systems on the car.   
  • Uphold RLL procedures to ensure car preparation and appearance meet RLL standards. 
  • Adhere to RLL purchasing procedures in securing supplies and parts for racecar preparation. 
  • Work collaboratively to ensure all cars are prepared uniformly across the team. 
  • Maintain a personal supply of tools as needed for assigned duties. 
  • Oversee any work done to car by mechanics or any other team member. 

Job Knowledge: 

  • Possess advanced knowledge of racecar setup, quality standards, and sanctioning body regulations. 
  • Proficient in using tools and equipment, including hand tools, set up pad tools, Magnaflux machine, Zyglo machine, tape measure, calipers, and micrometers. 
  • Use of basic metal & machine tools such as hand drills, drill presses, grinders, punch(s), sanders, lathe, mill, welder, band saw, press. 

Travel: 

  • Be able to travel to all races, tests, and other scheduled events as dictated by the team’s calendar.
