Position Overview:
Controls Technician will support the Plant Engineer with maintaining and troubleshooting the operations of a highly automated 24/7 manufacturing facility. Automated systems include food processing, refrigeration, filling, packaging, boiler, air generation and wastewater systems. This position will report directly to the Plant Engineer with support to the Maintenance Manager.
Job Responsibilities:
- Ability to read and understand electrical wiring diagrams.
- Use Electrical AutoCAD for design purposes.
- Responsible for the commissioning, diagnosis, calibration, maintenance, and repair of environmental-control systems and processes, utilizing knowledge of electronics, direct digital control (DDC), airflow, hydronics, refrigeration theory, pH sensors, flow meters, electrical meters and system control techniques.
- Works with the Controls Engineer, Maintenance Personnel and plant personnel to keep all control systems, mechanical and electromechanical field devices operating according to the basis of design.
- Troubleshoot electrical controls related process issues
- Must be willing to work in all areas when needed
- Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies Deco Automotive
- Able to work extended or flexible hours/shifts as required
- Electrical drawings, procedures, maintenance logs
- Reviews and updates all equipment records for history of preventive/predictive maintenance and service activities to ensure adequate maintenance schedule is in place
- Reports on status of assigned equipment maintenance and repair activities to supervisor
- Operate, maintain, and trend the Building Automation Systems (BAS) for the entire site
- Performs preventive maintenance, component replacement and corrections as needed
- Participates in structured group or team activities related to line/area performance improvement autonomous maintenance, housekeeping, problem solving
- Shares knowledge and develops maintenance skills in operator technicians
- Evaluate and provide input for assembly, tooling, and equipment prints for existing and new program changes
- Instrumentation troubleshooting and diagnosis, set up, and some calibration support and training for electricians including ownership of calibration methods
- Receives general supervision and exercises some discretion as to work details
- Responsible for completing projects tasks within time and budget constraints
- Work is reviewed for overall accuracy, completeness and soundness of technical judgment
Essential Knowledge/Skills:

- PLC control systems, programming, integration, installation, upgrade and troubleshooting of one or more of the following Rockwell, Siemens, ABB or others.
- Initializing, modification, upgrade and troubleshooting of VFD including Rockwell, Parker, Lenze, Yokogawa, Reliance, Emerson, ABB
- Exercise technical, mechanical and control system aptitude / skills to accurately identify root causes for machine failures or breakdowns and the repair accordingly
- Instrumentations and controls debugging and troubleshooting
Education/Experience:
- Associates degree in controls or electrical engineering technologies or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3+ years working in manufacturing; Minimum 2+ years as a control’s technician (or equivalent experience).
- Must be competent with CAD systems, Supervisory control systems, Ladder Logic and other programs that are specific to work environment
Environmental Considerations:
- Must be able to work in environments with varying temperatures.
- Potential exposure to ingredients used in food manufacturing, including allergens.
- May encounter chemicals commonly used in food processing and distribution facilities.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to navigate all areas of the facility, including office spaces, warehouse areas, and the exterior perimeter.
- Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary to safely perform job duties.
- Ability to stand, sit, and carry out tasks throughout a full shift, with appropriate meal breaks.
- Physically capable of standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, and crouching as needed.
- Able to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier objects with reasonable accommodations.
- Visual acuity sufficient to perform job duties accurately.
- Capable of assessing weights, judging distances, and working at various heights.
Work Schedule:
Shift work is support of production with occasional overtime to trouble shoot or perform preventative maintenance. Typically, Monday-Friday, 1st shift.
