The Teen Program Manager plays a key role engaging youth ages 13-18 years old by supporting outreach efforts that encourage teen club membership, providing positive mentorship and coaching, and implementing a variety of engaging activities. This position is a blend of program research and design, outreach and engagement, community presence, and youth development. The qualified candidate will facilitate curriculum focused on a mix of academic, character and leadership, and career exploration materials. After school activities range from recruiting and encouraging youth to participate in Youth of the Year, guiding the College Bound program, connecting young people to resources and opportunities, and leading civic engagement activities that support Leaders in Training or volunteer culture.
The Teen Program Manager role is considered a leadership role for MVG and involves working collaboratively with the Director of Operations for Teens & Workforce Readiness.
Essential Functions of the Position
Youth Development: Experience working directly with adolescents (ages 13-18) in a positive and engaging manner.
Program Development & Implementation:
Ability to design, plan, and implement high-quality, youth-centered programs that align with Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica’s mission and best practices.
Experience developing and facilitating engaging and effective curriculum. This position will leverage BGCA curriculum, best practices, and evaluation to implement programming.
College & Career Readiness:
Experience with college and career readiness programming, including:
SAT/ACT preparation and test-taking strategies
College application guidance and support
Career exploration and job readiness training
Coordinating college tours and campus visits
Leadership Development: Experience in developing and implementing youth leadership programs, including:
Youth councils
Mentoring programs
Leadership training workshops
Field Trip Planning & Supervision:
Ability to plan and supervise safe and engaging field trips for adolescents.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to:
Effectively communicate with youth, parents, volunteers, and staff.
Build positive relationships with youth and their families.
Resolve conflicts effectively and professionally.
Must have experience with the college essay and application process, and strong written communications.
Organization & Time Management:
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to:
Manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Maintain accurate records and documentation.
Create and maintain a safe and organized program environment.
Qualifications for the Ideal Candidate
Experience with K-12 Youth: Prior experience working with children and youth in a K-12 setting (e.g., schools, after-school programs).
Experience supervising and mentoring program staff, including:
Hiring, training, and developing staff.
Addressing staff concerns and resolving issues.
Creating and maintaining a positive and supportive work environment for staff.
Ability to design and implement age-specific programming and curriculum.
Good character, integrity and adaptability. Must lead with good judgement, be able to set healthy boundaries, illustrate patience, and emotional intelligence.
Ability to set a positive example for teens and peers in presence, attitude and behavior.
Experience working with diverse populations and communities and know how to build an inclusive environment for teens.
Knowledge of and the ability to establish relationships within the Santa Monica and L.A. nonprofit community, local school districts, colleges, and universities. Have worked with interdisciplinary and collaborative teams.
Demonstrated experience with recruitment for after school programming, building rapport with youth, and engagement tactics for youth.
Must participate in required training by the Club, County, State, and/or funders.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
Must be able to pass background checks, fingerprinting, and TB test
Must obtain/maintain a current CPR & First Aid Certification upon employment
Extra Awesome Points:
Bilingual/Multicultural Skills: Fluency in a second language and/or experience working with diverse youth populations, specifically Spanish.
You have a teaching certificate or background in education.
Experience supervising and mentoring program staff, including:
