Our engineers and professionals provide Highway Design and Traffic Engineering, Bridge and Structural Engineering, Civil Design, Surveying and Mapping, Pipeline and Associated Facility Design, Geotechnical/Geophysical, Environmental Studies and Water/Wastewater design.


We are currently seeking a Wastewater Engineer to join Dawood’s Municipal and General Civil Group. The successful candidate will report to a Senior Project Manager and work with Project Engineers, Civil Designers and CAD Technicians to develop Wastewater Infrastructure Plans and a wide variety of related deliverables in our Enola office location. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs and evaluates wastewater collection, conveyance and treatment systems as well as provide support for maintenance, rehabilitation, and repair for municipal and private sector clients
  • Consults with internal and external clients to determine project requirements and gathers information to meet project objectives
  • Designs systems to safely, efficiently, and effectively convey and/or treat wastewater
  • Prepares or reviews engineering drawings, hydraulic analyses, head loss calculations, and cost estimates
  • Drafts or reviews layout, profiles, and details for gravity sewers, pump/lift station, and force mains
  • Plans project layout considering site conditions and possible impacts on stakeholders, other infrastructure, and the environment
  • Calculates or reviews gravity wastewater collection/conveyance or stormwater drainage system load and capacity determinations 
  • Evaluates flow meter, sewage level, and rain fall data in the context of infiltration and inflow (I&I) studies 
  • Assesses the need for wastewater systems based on current and projected future users
  • Conducts feasibility studies for the construction of pump station or treatment facilities
  • Analyzes capital, maintenance, and operation costs of various wastewater treatment or conveyance options, conducts cost-benefit analyses, and recommends the most advantageous method
  • Critiques bids and proposals for wastewater treatment or conveyance system construction or rehabilitation 
  • Completes and files Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) renewal applications for permits to discharge sewage effluent from sewage treatment facilities
  • Completes and files PADEP Water Quality Management (WQM) General and/or Part II permit applications for sewer extensions and pumping stations
  • Writes, assembles, or reviews construction documentation including design specifications, bidding documents, and construction contracts
  • Compares contractor submittals to construction documentation to determine compliance
  • Inspects or directs inspections of active construction projects, documents progress or reviews progress documentation, and resolves issues arising with items not in conformity with plans and specifications
  • Generates or reviews annual Chapter 94 Municipal Wasteload Management Reports
Requirements

Required Qualifications:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily or quickly learn to do so under the direction of others. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Licensed in Pennsylvania OR 5+ years’ experience involving the design, bidding, and construction for wastewater systems
  • Ability to balance initiative and accountability
  • Strong, communication, planning, and organizational skills
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software


Preferred qualifications (not required):

  • 5-12 years of relevant post-education experience
  • Experience with Act 537 Wastewater Facilities Planning
  • Competence with AutoCAD civil 3D
  • Competence with ArcGIS Pro
  • Experience with AutoCAD plant 3D
  • Experience using Aspen HYSYS, EnviroSim BioWin, STOAT or other treatment plants simulation software
  • Experience using EPANET or hydraulic modeling software
  • Experience with Python 
  • Licensed Treatment Operator (any class)
