The Production Manager – Woodshop is responsible for overseeing all aspects of our woodshop operations, leading a team of over 12 employees to ensure efficient production, quality control, and safety. This role is critical in developing and maintaining team members' skills while fostering a high-performing, safety-focused culture. What you will be doing:
- Oversee all woodshop production processes, ensuring raw materials are efficiently converted into high-quality finished products.
- Lead, coach, and support team members to ensure consistent execution of woodworking operations.
- Facilitate training and development programs to enhance team skills and meet key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Develop and manage production schedules, balancing workflow efficiency with interdepartmental needs to meet customer expectations.
- Maintain and manage the departmental budget, optimizing material usage, labor, supplies, and training expenses.
- Enforce and promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with workplace safety regulations and best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, maintaining high standards for product quality and process efficiency.
What you need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field – or equivalent work experience.
- At least five years of experience in a woodshop environment (e.g., woodworking, cabinetmaking, furniture manufacturing) and/or leadership experience in a manufacturing or production setting with transferable skills.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain machinery - experience with woodworking machinery a plus.
- Proven leadership and team-building skills to effectively manage and develop hourly staff.
- Knowledge of domestic and exotic solid woods, veneers, and woodworking materials is a plus.
- Proficiency in woodworking techniques, including measuring, millwork drawings, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to give clear instructions and support a team with varying levels of English proficiency.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Gmail, and company-specific software. CAD experience is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to implement solutions quickly and effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced production environment.
- Detail-oriented with a proactive, hands-on approach to process improvement.
- Positive, professional demeanor with a resourceful and self-motivated attitude.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. frequently.
- Physical capability to stand for up to 10 hours a day and perform repetitive movements such as gripping, grasping, twisting, and lifting lumber and panels.
