Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.
We are searching for part-time seasonal Adult League Softball Field Supervisors for our adult softball leagues. The Adult League Softball Field Supervisor is responsible for supervision of softball games as well as the fields/parks where the softball games are played. The Adult League Softball Supervisor must be at least 18 years old and able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The Adult League Softball Field Supervisor can expect to work shifts primarily during the week, Monday through Thursday, from approximately 6pm until 10:45pm, during the spring and summer months. The starting pay for the Adult League Softball Supervisor is $15.00 per hour. Park District employees also receive facility privileges.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Report to work as scheduled. Arrive at the softball fields 30 minutes before first scheduled game time.
Open/lock park gates and washrooms, when needed.
Set up and take down bases on fields.
Inspect playing areas. Make sure fields are in safe playing condition, especially during inclement weather.
When the umpires arrive, give them their game card and softballs for the first game.
Turn lights on/off when needed.
Maintain order, control, and safety during and after games and complete necessary incident forms when needed.
Pay attention to the games, attend to any injuries and complete incident and situation reports thoroughly and accurately as required.
Collect the result cards from the umpires and leave for the Athletics Manager.
Answer participant questions about the softball season including schedules, standings and rules.
Make a reasonable effort to independently solve problems. Report equipment, facility or program issues to the Athletics Supervisor or Athletics Manager.
Act as a liaison between park district patrons and management.
Clean up game fields and put equipment away. Close and lock the washrooms. Lock all the gates prior to departure.
Attend staff meetings, training and special events as needed. Be familiar with and follow all District rules, policies and procedures.
SECONDARY DUTIES:
Maintain a neat and organized work area.
Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Athletics Manager, Director of Recreation, and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency perform all duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 18 years old and have obtained a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Must be CPR/AED certified or become CPR/AED certified within 1 month of employment.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.
Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for coordination of work, safety and in emergency situations as needed.
Must possess a high level of energy, social skills, initiative and enthusiasm. Must be able to work cooperatively with others and be able to work harmoniously and maintain effective relationships with patrons, coworkers, and community groups.
Must display good customer service skills. Must display a positive attitude in regards to the District and its employees, programs and patrons.
Must be able to resolve conflict in a professional and tactful manner.
Must demonstrate good judgment and discretion. Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and emergencies and respond accordingly.
Must possess good time management skills. Must be able to work with minimal supervision. Reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Must be able to abide by the guidelines and policies set by the District.
The Adult Softball Field Supervisor will be sitting, standing, walking and lifting throughout the day. Must be able to sit, stand and/or walk for sustained periods of time. Must be able to perform tasks that require walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing and reaching. May be exposed to outdoor conditions including sun, high humidity, wind, rain, and heat and cold.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds for supplies and other items.
Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours will be required. Your work schedule may vary and your workweek may exceed regular hours at times but will be less than 1,000 hours per year. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the Adult Softball Field Supervisor position.
