Job Summary: The Director of Aquatics is responsible for the aquatics department and upholding Paradise Valley Country Club’s mission statement. The Aquatics Director oversees the daily operation of all swimming activities held at the club; helps promote interest and enjoyment of swimming programs to all members and members’ guests. The Aquatics Director maintains the best department appearance, with the focus on safe swimming conditions in the pool, on the deck, and surrounding areas. The Director enforces all club and pool rules in a clear, polite manner.
Essential Functions:
Ø Balance pool chemicals to meet mandated levels/standards
Ø Knows how to handle and distribute chlorine gas.
Ø Hiring, promotion, disciplinary, and termination of all aquatics staff
Ø Enforces club rules with professionalism
Ø Facilitating in-service training for lifeguards
Ø Scheduling lifeguards for the appropriate shifts
Ø Ensures all aquatic team members provide a safe and friendly environment for all members and guests
Ø Sets a high standard for the department by providing exceptional customer service and meeting the members’ needs and expectations
Ø Has Holiday availability
Ø Maintains routine cleanliness and completes “work breaks” to the best of your ability
Ø Pool maintenance and record-keeping in the chemical log
Ø Leads swim meets and other events
Ø Fulfills other duties as assigned
Promotional:
Ø Develops new programs and events for aquatics department
Ø Markets and promotes aquatic programs and activities to members
Member Experience:
Ø Teaches sound, competitive swimming skills in a positive and healthy manner
Ø Develops positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance
Ø Organizes and administers all assigned coaching responsibilities, including daily practices
Ø Attends all swim team functions as assigned by manager
Ø Teaches swimming lessons to members and their families of all ages
Ø Strives to learn member names and their kids’ names
Required Education/Experience/Certifications:
Ø Current Lifeguard Certification
Ø 2+ years lifeguard experience at a high-volume facility
Ø 2+ years of swimming coaching experience
Ø Handling gas chlorine experience
Ø 2+ years pool management/supervisory experience
Ø Certified Pool Operator
Ø US Swim Coach Certified
Ø CPR for Professional Rescuer
Ø First Aid
Ø AED
Ø Oxygen Administration for the Professional Rescuer
Ø Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor
Ø Microsoft Office proficiency
Ø Event planning experience
Required Skills:
Ø Strong swimming skills
Ø Strong social skills – must enjoy working with children
Ø Maintains professionalism at all times
Ø Knowledge of pool maintenance and cleaning procedures
Ø Must practice safety at all times
Ø Knowledgeable of lifeguard skills and basic first aid / emergency rescues
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to operate objects, tools and/or talk and/or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. During winter months, the employee will be required to put on/take off pool covers.
