Description

Under the direction of the Department Manager, the Extrusion Supervisor ensures the production of company products at the highest quality and at the lowest possible cost, meeting company policies and procedures. The Extrusion Supervisor will act in a manner that is consistent with Gordon Aluminum’s Customer 1st Philosophy.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.


The general purpose of the Extrusion Supervisor is they oversee 2 extrusion presses and coordinates the operations of both while maintaining a safe and productive work environment. Communicates with other supervisors and managers to produce quality parts to meet customer demand while helping drive continuous improvement. Give employees performance reviews on a timely basis, while filling attendance and disciplinary reports as needed. Work with scheduler to help adhere to a production plan that will satisfy customer needs. Reports to the extrusion manager.


  • Maintain a safe working environment for all employees and facilitating training for new employees.
  • Keep extrusion presses running to schedule to meet customer demands as well as meeting or exceeding quality requirements.
  • Communicate effectively within the plant on any changes, needs, or news that may be happening within the extrusion department.
  • Find the root cause on quality issues and work on fixing them so they do not happen again.
  • Be able to make quick decisions on their own, which affects the production line or employees.
  • Continuous Improvement projects to keep bettering the department.
  • Keep track of and manage direct reports time and attendance, reviews, and disciplinary action.

Supervisory Responsibilities  

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Requirements

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  


Education and/or Experience

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Presents aptitude for using computers and Microsoft Office. College experience not needed if relevant experience in manufacturing, construction, and/or leadership.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Able to easily use fractions and decimals, ratios, and percentages.


Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Presents the ability or experience to respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, or other employees in an oral or written fashion.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Physical Demands

Physical Demands refers to the level and/or duration of physical exertion generally required to perform occupational takes (sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, pushing and pulling).


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Perform repetitive motion of fingers, hands, wrists, shoulders and upper body. The employee if regularly required to sit. Occasionally the employee will be required to stoop, kneel, couch or crawl, taste and smell. 


The employee will frequently be required to lift up 10 to 25 pounds. 


Specific vision abilities required for this position include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).       


Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to working near moving mechanical parts, and extreme weather (non-weather). The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions. 


The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Hearing protection is required on the production floor. Employee is expected to wear the required personal protective equipment when on the production floor.
