Our Model

Francophone Charter School of Oakland uses a dual language immersion model to prepare students to communicate in French and English. For lower grade students, most of the school day is delivered in French, and select hours each week are dedicated to English Language Arts instruction with a designated teacher. For upper grade students, the school day is taught by multiple teachers, each with a designated language of instruction (English or French). English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher.


Grades

Transitional Kindergarten-7th.


Responsibilities

The ELA teacher oversees students’ English language and literacy development. Planning instruction based on the California standards for English Language Arts and English Language Development, and using adopted materials (Units of Study for Reading and Writing for grades K-8, Units of Study for Phonics for grades K-1), the teacher delivers instruction to multiple groups of students, monitors progress using formative assessment, and differentiates accordingly. In Grades 3 and above, the English language arts teacher also designs and delivers instruction in history-social studies. The English language arts teacher partners with French-speaking colleagues and with families to promote the success of each child.    


Requirements

Lower grades: Multiple Subject California teaching credential or equivalent.

Upper grades: Multiple Subject California teaching credential, Single Subject California teaching credential, or equivalent.
