GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The position of Meter Technician is part of the town’s Public Works Department. This position’s main responsibilities are to maintain and service the AMI and Non-AMI meters of the Town of Landis through analytics and onsite maintenance. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Monitor RNI analytics for meter errors.
  • Dispatching of water/electrical departments for work orders.
  • Conduct RNI meter maintenance and updates.  
  • Obtain meter reads for all non-AMI meters. 
  • Maintain and report all meters and their conditions.  
  • Oversee Inventory of Water/Electric Departments.
  • Oversee Inventory of MXU, Meters, and Garbage Cans. 
  • Test/Change out meters.
  • Alarm monitoring/notification of customers. 
  • Conduct all utility locates for Town of Landis utilities. 
  • Any other task designated by the Town Manager, Public Works Director, or Water/Sewer Resources Foreman.

The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must be able to perform heavy work exerting up-to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up-to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 20pounds constantly to lift objects. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 


WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work is generally performed in both inside and outside environmental conditions in which the employee is subject to workplace hazards including exposure to operating mechanical equipment creating fumes, odors, dust, and atmospheric conditions with extreme cold and heat for extended periods of time. Employee is subject to a level of noise requiring workers to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. In addition, the employee is subject to a chance of injury from walking or standing in a construction site.

  

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • General knowledge of the safe use, operation, and preventive maintenance of the equipment which is assigned.
  • One to two years’ experience as a meter technician preferred. 
  • Experience locating utilities preferred. 
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Possession of a valid North Carolina Commercial A driver’s license.
  • May require mandatory call backs (or on call during cut off weeks).
  • First aid and CPR certification.
  • May include nights, weekends, and holidays.

DRUG TESTING: This position requires the employee to be subject to random drug testing as per the Town of Landis Policy.
