Job Summary:
The candidate will be responsible for the hands-on, day-to-day tasks required to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency of the buildings and campus. Working under the guidance and supervision of the Facilities Operations Coordinator, the candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to performing physical tasks with a focus on safety. This role demands both the ability and the desire to engage in hands-on work daily.
Ministerial Character
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the Parish of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
Essential Job Duties:
- As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of All Angels and Saints Catholic Church in both your professional and personal life.
- Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
- Maintain the sacristan cabinet with necessary supplies (Altar Bread, Altar Wine, etc.) by restocking from the main inventory warehouse.
- Ensure all oil candles (Altar Candles, Adoration Candles, Server Candles, Day Chapel Altar Candles) are filled and ready for use.
- Replace candles in the Marian Chapel and keep the sand clean.
- Keep Holy Water containers in the Narthex and Baptismal Font full.
- Empty trash cans in the Kitchen, Benish Main Hall, and outdoor areas.
- Refill all dispensers (paper towels, toilet paper, soap, etc.) across the campus.
- Maintain proper stock levels in the three janitor closets as defined by the Operations Coordinator, using supplies from the main housekeeping inventory.
- Prepare Benish Main Hall for events as directed by the Operations Coordinator, including:
- Operating the “Zamboni” floor cleaner.
- Setting up tables and chairs
- Provide additional manpower support as needed, including climbing ladders, navigating attic spaces, lifting and carrying items up to 50 lbs, and performing general physical labor tasks.
- Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
- Ability to climb ladders and navigate building attic spaces.
- Capability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Willingness to perform general physical labor activities.
- Other job duties as assigned by the Operations Coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability and desire to provide excellent customer service and professional communications with staff, clergy, and laity.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
- Ability to communicate and understand technical information with in-house personnel
- Basic Level of Computer Literacy: Use essential applications in Microsoft Office.
- Use of different forms of internal communications (e.g. Teams, Outlook, etc)
- Sending and receiving emails and managing emails.
- Skill in using office equipment (e.g. copiers, fax machine, telephone system, etc.)
- Must have good interpersonal skills.
- Must have the ability to learn new software programs as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church staff, clergy, peers, and laity.
- Ability to maintain respect at all times.
- Ability to work outside normal business hours including holidays and weekends.
- Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Trainings:
- Must have High School Diploma or GED.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in this field or equivalent non-professional experience.
- Verifiable history of significant volunteer service within a parish community required (within St Margaret Mary preferred)
Language:
- Proficient in English speaking, writing, and reading.
Catholic Requirement:
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Must maintain compliance with the Diocese of Austin Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) policies throughout the employment period.
Working Conditions:
- All employees of the Parish are engaged in ministry and closely tied to the Pastor in the exercise of his ministry and obligations to the church.
- St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church is an at-will employer, which means employment may be terminated by the employee or employer with or without notice at any time.
- All buildings and vehicles owned by the Parish are tobacco free.
- Working in a fast-paced environment with priorities and plans that may change rapidly.
- Working on weekends, evenings, and some holidays may be required.
- Will be exposed to religious ceremonies, conduct, and speech, including Roman Catholic Christian prayer and liturgical celebrations.
- Will be required to conform personal and professional activities to be consistent with and supportive of the mission, purpose, and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Will be required to adhere to established dress codes and conduct standards.
- May be required to use personal or parish vehicle to drive to other Parishes or other off- site locations.
- Travelling within and outside the parish to meetings and other events may be required, and travel may require overnight lodging.
