Director of People and Culture
Status: Full time and exempt
Reports to: Jean and Myles McDonough Director
Oversees: Human Resources Division Staff
Salary Range: $145k - $165k Annual Salary
Purpose: To serve as strategic partner to the Museum Director and Leadership Team in matters of people and culture and to ensure the mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives are aligned and consistently expressed across the museum for the benefit of the entire museum community.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Serves as a strategic partner, developing workplace and workforce objectives and policies with the Director and members of the leadership team; collaborates with Divisions to support institutional goals.
- Oversees WAM’s workplace policies, processes, and practices that enable a high-performance, data-driven, innovative, and engaged environment.
- Ensures implementation of best practices in areas of leadership, management, workforce development, decision making, and professional communication to further internal and external culture goals.
- Helps the museum navigate change smoothly and strategizes transformations as needed.
- Builds and maintains relationships to expand knowledge and further the
- Museum’s reputation locally, nationally and globally as a leader in workplace connection and innovation; represents the institution to various audiences.
- Position WAM for success in a dynamic environment by working closely with Sr.
- Leadership on workforce planning and organizational design.
- Leads the Human Resources department to ensure compliance with employment law; alignment of compensation, benefits, talent acquisition, engagement, and performance management to museum goals, and oversees implementation of goals evaluation systems.
- Serves as staff liaison to Human Resources Committee; attends Board and
- Executive Committee Meetings as needed.
- Remains current with developments in the fields of human resources, employment law, culture transformation, change leadership, and best workplace practices and participates in professional organizations and meetings to understand trends and recommends new approaches that improve engagement, innovation, and productivity in the Museum.

Qualifications:
- Exceptional knowledge of strategic change management, policy administration, employment law, corporate and employee communication, as well as organizational culture development strategies, processes, best practices, analytics, and project management.
- Proven ability to analyze, strategize, propose solutions and make collaborative decisions in a creative and data-driven environment.
- Demonstrated skills in strategic and operational planning and high-stakes communication - including crisis response and communication - at all levels both internally and externally.
- Strong leadership and management skills and the ability to build and maintain high performing teams.
- Background in strategic change management, organizational behavior, employee communication, culture building, and/or human resources
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage conflict and maintain productive relationships with a wide array of people at all levels.
- Impeccable integrity and personal sense of accountability.
- Demonstrated ability to consequentially operationalize HR theory in support of stated values and strategic goals.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business, Management, OD, HR) or equivalent
Minimum of 7 years in a management position, preferably in a non-profit environment
5+ years in a senior leadership role, C-suite or equivalent experience preferred
Direct experience with HR as a business partner or leader
Direct experience leading organizational and cultural change with measurable positive impact on the organization’s strategic goals and experience successfully advising senior executives on the implementation and follow through of initiatives.
