JOB SUMMARY


Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Manager oversees the Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP) team while managing key general accounting functions. This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of AR and AP transactions, account reconciliations, and month-end closing activities. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, extensive accounting knowledge, and the ability to optimize financial processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Accounts Receivable & Payable Management:

  • Supervise and provide guidance to the AR and AP teams, ensuring efficient and accurate transaction processing. 
  • Ensures assigned staff accuracy and performance standards are met, conducts performance reviews and offers regular coaching and feedback to staff.
  • Ensures team communication is effective and professional
  • Oversee invoicing, billing, and cash application processes to maintain positive cash flow and minimize outstanding receivables.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices, payments, and expense reimbursements.
  • Maintain relationships with key vendors, contractors and customers to address payment or collection issues.
  • Review and approve payment runs, ensuring compliance with company policies and contractual obligations.
  • Participates in assigned workgroups or teams, as assigned.

General Accounting & Month-End Close:

  • Perform and oversee account reconciliations, including bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and sub-ledgers.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
  • Support external audits by providing documentation and reconciliations.

Process Improvement & Compliance:

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy in AR, AP, and general accounting functions.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and relevant financial regulations.
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and system enhancements.
  • Provide training and mentorship to accounting staff to support professional development.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Extensive applicable work experience may be considered in lieu of education. 
  • 5+ years of accounting work experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, NetSuite, QuickBooks, or similar ERP systems).
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data analysis tools).
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with accounting and payroll software including NetSuite and Paylocity
  • Experience with governmental accounting systems and processes
  • Previous supervisory work experience
