JOB GOAL: To service St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (the "Church") by facilitating the spiritual and community life of its clergy, staff and parishioners (the "Church Community") by assisting with the development and production of a catechetical program for youth grades 6th through 12th ("Youth Ministry").
Ministerial Character
The Pastor is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the parish of St. Catherine of Siena Church which the Bishop has entrusted to him. He makes Christ’s mission present and enduring in the parish. In order to fulfill his mission, the Pastor employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them his mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.
Positions employed at St. Catherine of Siena Church help to extend the ministry of the Pastor in particular ways as outlined in the job description. Therefore, the employee in this position is closely connected to and assists the Pastor in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the Church.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and /or ability required for this position:
1. Ability to assist with the development, organization and production of Youth Ministry curriculum, syllabi and other materials.
2. Ability to recruit, screen, train, assist and supervise religious education volunteers and to maintain appropriate paper records of such matters, including:
• Religious education instructors ("Catechists");
• hospitality teams to make and serve snacks and other refreshments; and
• service volunteers for setup, teardown, cleanup and other Youth Ministry tasks.
3. Ability to coordinate and conduct Youth Ministry events, including:
• recruiting participants;
• assigning children to classes for age appropriate instruction and sacramental preparation as needed;
• assisting with the preparation and production of prayer services;
• ensuring compliance with all Diocesan requirements including implementing the Called to Protect for Youth; and
• assisting with weekly youth programs.
4. Ability to create and manage an annual budget and to create and maintain all records, supplies and materials necessary and appropriate for the Youth Ministry program, including:
• registering all participants and Catechist in the Ministry Platform ("MP") and creating such paper records as may be appropriate to ensure all required documentation;
• ensuring that all Catechists complete the Diocesan Application for Ministry, receive a satisfactory background check and attend an Ethics in Ministry workshop every three years; and
• maintaining all records required for Sacraments including entering such data into parish registries and MP, issuance of Sacramental certificates and notification of parishes of baptism of completed Sacraments.
5. Ability to assist with the development and implementation of other Youth Ministry, adult and Catechist faith enrichment programs, including:
• Age appropriate Youth Ministry retreats;
• Diocesan youth events;
• Summer Challenge;
• Bible Studies; and
• Catechist retreats and banquet.
6. Ability to assist with other education programs as requested from time to time by the
Director of Religious Education for Children and Youth.
7. Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and
In writing) with the Church Community.
8. Ability to abide by the moral and ethical norms of the Roman Catholic Church and to share in the same general covenant relationship to minister to the people of God and to model to the larger community the teachings of the Church.
9. Such alternatives to the above requirements as the Director of Religious Education for Children and Youth and Director of Family Catechesis and Evangelization may deem reasonably appropriate and acceptable.
10. As an integral part of your ministry for the Church as carried out in this position, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of St. Catherine of Siena Church in both your professional and personal life.
11. Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
12. Continuously grow in your ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
1. A degree in relevant studies or equivalent education and/or experience;
2. Completion of the Diocesan Application for Ministry and receipt of a satisfactory background check;
3. Attendance at an Ethics in Ministry workshop every three years; and
4. Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a full time non-exempt position requiring not more than
40 per week. The position may require some variable hours outside of regular business hours to meet the needs of the Church Community including evening and weekend hours.
